Appeals court restores Brady's 'Deflategate' suspension
Source: Reuters
A U.S. appeals court on Monday restored the four-game "Deflategate" suspension of New England Patriots star quarterback Tom Brady over allegations footballs were under inflated before an NFL playoff game last year.
The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New York reversed a federal judge's ruling from September. The appeals court ruled that in imposing the suspension, National Football League Commissioner Roger Goodell properly exercised his discretion under a collective bargaining agreement.

(16,399 posts)I'll make it clear....I hate the Patriots. I think they cheat at every turn. I think Bill Belichick is the closest thing to Dick Cheney other than Dick himself. A lying, sniveling, cheating scumbag.
But now I have to listen to the worst sports fans in the land WHINE AND CRY FOR FUCKING MONTHS ABOUT IT LIKE SOMEONE MURDERED THEIR FAMILY.

http://www.sharpfootballanalysis.com/blog/2015/the-new-england-patriots-mysteriously-became-fumble-proof-in-2007
Once again, a key takeaway is deadly obvious: prior to 2007 the Patriots were RIGHT IN LINE with the league averages across the other non-dome teams. When you look team by team, they literally are in the middle of the pack for most seasons, as the histogram in the very first graphic at the top of this article shows. But starting in 2007, all similarities totally vanish.
The statistical jump the Patriots make in the 2006 offseason, from one fumble every 39 plays to one fumble every 76 plays is nothing short of remarkable. Their trendline over this period is not even close to that of the rest of the NFL.
(Prior to the rule change that let the teams "take care of the own balls the Pats fumbled @ a rate that was = to
the rest of the league but afte that the Pats almost never fumbled the ball.)
Bradys quote at the time, when pushing for the change was: The thing is, every quarterback likes it a little bit different. Some like them blown up a little bit more, some like them a little more thin, some like them a little more new, some like them really broken in.

(53,544 posts)For those that say the Patriots are cheaters they should look at their own team. Starting with the Broncos.
The court apparently took Goodell's word that he was fair and used good science.

(1,178 posts)I did judo for years and, even after a long break, I can still tell the difference between my belt and someone elses's. Every athlete knows their equipment and a pro knows it precisely. To believe that someone who has thrown tens, maybe hundreds of thousands of passes couldn't tell that a football was deflated is not at all believable.

Do you notice when your car seat is moved an inch, or your computer monitor is pushed back 6 inches? Patriot's fans live in willful ignorance of their team's well-documented cheating.

(4,033 posts)if he takes it to the Supreme Court, 5 Justices are from New York, 1 from New Jersey, 1 from California and 1 from Georgia. I don't think Brady's chances are good.

(1,151 posts)In highschool. The rule concerning the football , the game ball , was brand new. Presented to me the kicker to open the game. It was not warmed up with, it was new.
So ,if a high school team can play with a new football, why can't a professional ?
Also, there was a big deal made back in the 90s I believe when kickers were tampering with the footballs. They put them in a micro wave oven to soften them up. They let a little air out they turned the tee upside down so the ball Sat a little higher. That was kickers so the league made a rule that you had to use new footballs and the refs kept them.
This rule change that allowed teams to use practice footballs was a slippery slope. They wanted more scoring, more TD passes. But what they got was more cheating.
Is Tom Brady a cheater ? Bill Belecheck?of course they are, everyone cheats. Maybe just a little, thats OK, but it's not OK when you cheat alot.
It does not look good either, when the team with 5 Superbowl victories appears to be cheating ,alot. The league did the right thing, no one likes a whiner so the Pat's would be best served to stand down. The crying is worse than the crime.
