The Latest: Police arrest protesters in Seattle
May 1, 11:04 PM EDT

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- The Latest on May Day marches across the U.S. (all times local):

8:00 p.m.

At least four people have been arrested and two police officers injured in Seattle following clashes between anti-capitalist protesters and authorities on May Day.

Seattle police used pepper spray to disperse the protesters Sunday evening after authorities say rocks, flares and bricks were thrown at officers downtown. Police also said Molotov cocktails were thrown at them.

Authorities said two officers were hurt - one treated at the scene for a head laceration. Details about the other officer's injury weren't immediately available.

Dozens of people dressed in black had gathered at a downtown park following a peaceful, permitted march by advocates for workers and immigrants. They marched through downtown and were later pushed south by officers in riot gear on bikes.

There are peaceful marches each year on May 1st, but the Anarchists come every year and do damage., breaking windows and anything else they can manage. This year they were told as long as they didn't attempt damage and used no force or weapons the police would escort them where they could march. The protesters, carrying a sign, WE WILL NOT BE GOVERNED, threw molotov cocktails, jabbed sticks, etc., sprayed. Two officers were injured.

SO, they were no longer escorted. They were herded in the most well planned and executed control of violent protesters I have ever seen, the Anarchists have rioted many years on May 1st. Kudos to the police plan and the execution of it. No guns were fired. But who knows if they will be back after dark to cause havoc?

And Kudos to those peaceful protesters who know the best way to get their message across.

bicycles.

A march by dozens of people which began in a park downtown was pushed by bicycle police in riot gear south past the city's sports stadiums to a Costco parking lot.

SPD has one consent decree against it right now for racial bias. In the past we had to restrict the SPD, so they couldn't carry 4-8 D-cell mag flashlights because they'd just beat the shit out of people with them.

If it looks like they are handling it well, it's a combination of practice and decades of deliberate oversight.
