Trump running mate? Not so fast, says Sen. Susan Collins

Source: Sun Journal

PORTLAND — Sen. Susan Collins said she's amused to find herself thrust into the discussion of potential running mates for Donald Trump.

The Maine Republican was a supporter of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush for president, and she's never even met the New York real estate developer and Republican presidential front-runner.

But her name came up as a potential vice president choice in a New York Times story and she's been getting media attention about it in Maine ever since.

Collins noted that they have contrasting styles — Trump is an outspoken New Yorker while she's a consensus builder — but her failure to rule out the idea added to the intrigue.

They are nearly two sides of the same coin. The only difference is that Dump inherited wealth, and the Grifter has to hustle the rubes for every penny.

7. Susan Collins would rather beat her new husband with a chair leg on live TV than run with Trump,

is my guess.

And, from all reports, Susan Collins is quite fond of her new husband!

Nothing wrong with the "spell my name right" school of journalism, though.

This post used a bit of for those who are uncertain.

Collins knows how the Senate runs and thus could use that expertise to get what she wants done. Trump is also a blow hard, but that is not fatal in business or in Government. Trump is a business man, he makes a deal and stays with it. Between Trump and Collins you can get things done in DC, and the radical right will hate both for NEITHER are radical righters. Trump may say Right wing Social points, but most of those points will be meaningless in this election AND if and when he gets elected.

One of the biggest fear of Hillary and the Democratic leadership is that Trump will NOT attack Hillary from the Right but the ECONOMIC LEFT. On ECONOMIC issues Trump is actually to the left of Hillary (through Trump is clearly to the right of Sanders). Please note Hillary has moved to the left in her speeches since last year, but her past positions are the better view of her real positions and she supports TPP, has do nothing as to Card Check for unionization efforts, has taken money from Wall Street (Something Trump has not done, for he is spending his own money) and has MADE NO real proposals to solve the problem of student loans (i.e. she is for giving student with loans deferments, but no talk of dismissal unless it can be shown the student will NEVER be able to pay off the loan).

All Trump has to say is he sees Card Check as the same as an election, that he is NOT loyal to Wall Street, for they own him nothing, and as to the Student Loans, says since he has filed bankruptcy for several of his own business, what is good enough for him should be good enough for students and their student loans. They goes labor and any one who went to college and under age 40. Trump keeps the people over 50 by saying he will keep Social Security as it is and if he has to eliminate the cap on Social Security taxes. Trump has already said he is NOT paying enough taxes and should be paying more, but he would be a fool NOT to take advantages of the tax code as it is.

You may dislike Trump on Social Issues, but remember the 1992 slogan "Stay with the Economy", every time Bill Clinton got off the economy his numbers fell, when Bill returned to the Economy his numbers went back up. Trump will do the same thing this fall and Hillary has better start addressing those issues. Ignore the Social Issues, they will have very little affect on this upcoming election. The issue is the economy and why it has NOT helped the Working Class since 2008, while Wall Street is booming. Thus my comment that Trump will attack Hillary from the Left on economic issues and Collins would help her in that regard.

People may NOT like the above, I do not like the above, but that is how this election is shaping up. Who can better address the needs of white Mid-West married Whites? They are still 62% of the voting public and the issue is how large a percentage of such voters will Hillary win? Even if Hillary wins 100% of the non-White vote (African American will vote Democratic about 98% of the time, but Hispanic the percentage is more like 65% with other minorities voting like white Americans), Hillary will need 16 percentage points of the 64 % of Americans who are white (Or just under 25% of white voters). Given the lower percentage then 100% vote from Hispanics and other Minorities, it will be 1/3 of white voters. That is the MINIMUM she has to win to even THINK she can win this election. Hillary does NOT need 50% of white voters, but to win Hillary has to win at least 33% and I suspect that number is closer to 40%.

Now, most VPs have had little effect on any election. Thus the selection of Collins will have almost no affect on this election, but she would be an excellent person to work with Congress.

As to the election, Trump will pick someone who HURTS Hillary. Trump is popular enough among his followers that he could pick anyone and that pick will not NO AFFECT on that support. African American Support for Hillary is solid. Hispanic opposition to Trump appears almost as solid (if you exclude the Cubans, who are solidly for Trump). I did mention on another thread who, if Trump picked him, would HURT Hillary, but that thread was banned. On the other hand I see NO ONE else who Trump could pick that would hurt him OR help him. Thus Trump can pick anyone and it still remains a Trump vs Hillary fight.

9. Susan Collins is a decent human being--she would have nothing to do with that fucking pig Trump.

She's a Republican, but she's an actual "New England" Republican--they are different creatures from the Tea Party lunatics that make up the rest of the GOP Congressional delegation.

If I had to guess, I'd bet Collins votes for Clinton once she gets in the voting booth.
