Missing 11-year-old girl found dead near Shiprock

Source: Cortez Journal

An 11-year old girl who was reportedly abducted by a man in his late 30s after she got off a school bus in Lower Fruitland, New Mexico was found dead on Tuesday, a Federal Buruea of Investigation spokesman confirmed.

According to Albuquerque media coordinator Frank Fisher, the body of Ashlynn Mike was found near the Shiprock Monument.

An Amber Alert was issued Tuesday for Ashlynn, who was believed to be kidnapped into a red/maroon mini van with a New Mexico license plate around 2 p.m. on Monday. The man reportedly was wearing a baseball hat.

According to a Facebook post by the family, Mike’s brother, Ian, 9, was also abducted, yet was later able to escape and found near Red Valley, Arizona.

Fisher could not comment further on details of the case, but said a press conference will he held at 1 p.m.
The FBI, Navajo Nation, Shiprock Police Department and the San Juan County (New Mexico) Sheriff’s Office were involved in the search.

While her killer receives swift and severe justice.

I wish that animal nothing but anxiety, pain and a debilitatingly long prison sentence to be carried out in solitary confinement for the remainder of his natural born life. To quote the upcoming Suicide Squad film..."put him in a hole and throw away the hole".

I think knowingly sending an innocent person to prison should give the same penalty that you brought upon them.

There was a case in my local area where I believe a man was wrongfully convicted and executed.

His sister was battling cancer for most of his imprisonment and passed away shortly after he was executed. His mother died within a few months as well.

Period.

And if you can't acknowledge this has happened, you are blind to how completely corrupt the prison industrial complex can be.

... I hope they find that SOB. If they DON'T there will just be more innocents slaughtered. Sickos like this just don't do this and stop. This is a sick effing country we live in for this to happen. A kid can't even get off a school bus and get in the house before some sick SOB grabs them. If buses stop at the ends of lanes, then that needs to stop. They need to take the kids right up to their houses. The home owners need to have cul-de-sacs so the bus can get in and out easy.

RIP Baby.

Guessing things rarely turn out well when someone abducts a young girl.
The Navajo need to perform some old fashioned justice on the guy if and when he's found.

The search for the man suspected of abducting an 11-year-old Navajo girl who was found dead in Shiprock, New Mexico, remained ongoing Tuesday.

Ashlynne Mike was kidnapped along with her 9-year-old brother from a Navajo reservation after school Monday by a man who has been described as a stranger in a van.

The girl’s brother, Ian Mike, was able to escape and was found in Red Valley, Arizona, about a 30-minute drive away from where the siblings were kidnapped.

FBI spokesman Frank Fisher said Ashlynne’s body was found off the side of a dirt road near the rock outcropping that the town Shiprock is named after, about 26 miles from the abduction.

Children and adults have a hard time living with their grief when something tragic happens to their loved ones, and they couldn't prevent it.

This boy will need all the help heaven can send him, and the close support of his loved ones.

The murderer should go to prison a.s.a.p., and stay there. He also needs to formally apologize to these suffering family members and friends of the little girl and her brother.

Unbelievably painful, even to read in a news report.

Boy: Sister, stranger went into hills; she never came back

Felicia Fonseca and Mary Hudetz, Associated Press

Updated 8:54 pm, Tuesday, May 3, 2016

When the stranger approached Ian and Ashlynne Mike at the school bus stop, the boy was wary. But his older sister got lured into the van, and he didn't want her to go alone, so he went, too.

The man took the siblings to a desolate spot on the edge of the nation's largest American Indian reservation, authorities and family members say. The man and the 11-year-old girl walked into the hills, but the stranger came back alone, the boy told authorities.

Scared and in the dark, Ian ran more than 2 miles to a highway on the Navajo Nation where a passing driver found the boy Monday night.

Police gleaned some information about the suspect from the younger brother of Ashlynne, whose body was found Tuesday near a distinct rock formation that the rural town of Shiprock, New Mexico, is named for.

A search and rescue team found 11-year-old Ashlynne Mike's body off a dirt road near the Shiprock pinnacle

SHIPROCK — A 27-year-old Waterflow man was arrested Tuesday night in the abduction and slaying of an 11-year-old Navajo girl.

FBI spokesman Frank Fisher said in a press release that Tom Begaye was arrested and will appear at a court hearing this morning to answer charges he murdered Ashlynne Mike and dumped her body in a remote area near the Shiprock pinnacle.

Fisher said no further information will be released until after Begaye's court appearance.

. . .

He said his 9-year-old son was also approached Monday afternoon on Navajo Route 36 by a man in a maroon-colored van. He said the man offered to take his son to see a movie, but his son declined.

He said his son saw both Ashlynne and Ian inside the vehicle at the time.

“As they drove away, Ashlynne was waving at him,” he said.

Man Arrested for Abduction and Death of Navajo Girl, FBI Says

JULIA JACOBO

Updated 33 mins ago

A 27-year-old man has been arrested in the abduction and death of an 11-year-old girl believed to have been kidnapped from the Navajo Nation in New Mexico, the FBI announced this evening.

The Albuquerque office of the FBI tweeted its arrest of Tom Begaye, 27, of Waterflow, New Mexico, for the "abduction and death" of Ashlynne Mike, who went missing Monday and was found dead today. Begaye is slated to appear in court Wednesday, according to the FBI's tweet. It was unknown if he had a lawyer yet.

. . .

Shortly after the report was filed, a motorist picked up Ian as he walked along the highway and took him to the Shiprock Police Department. Ian told police that a man had taken them toward the Shiprock Pinnacle, but he let Ian out when he came upon a dead end, Manus said. The man then continued on with Ashlynne.

The man later returned without Ashlynne and told Ian to "go home," Manus said. Ashlynne's body was found today in Shiprock, according to FBI Public Affairs Specialist Frank Fisher.

The FBI described the man suspected of abducting her as a light-skinned Navajo man in his 20s or 30s with short, dark hair. The man has a tear-drop tattoo under his left eye, according to the FBI, and was last seen wearing earrings in both ears, a long, silver chain necklace, gold watch, with a black shirt and blue pants.
