(325 posts)As terrible as Trump is, Cruz was a real slimeball. I'm real glad he was shot down, honestly.
On to the next!

(20,185 posts)But Cruz is scary plus he thinks he's annointed by God to be President. I shudder to think who he would have chosen for SCOTUS.

(4,642 posts)I don't believe for one minute that a president Trump would be as nuts as candidate Trump. He will be tough to beat once he changes his campaign from nuts to responsible conservative during the GE. He is a great con man and Americans are so easy to con.

(170 posts)he's a business man first and foremost.
that means he's interested in what's best for him personally.
i believe good legislation could be pushed through a trump presidency because he's also an idiot and doesn't know shit about how the government runs.
still... as much as i want bernie, i'd still prefer hillary over trump

(51,550 posts)Now the Donald can coast to the GOP convention, the GOP can coalesce around him and start the fundraising for him big time for the GE.
Meanwhile, we have Sanders still slandering and bashing Hillary and forcing her to spend money in the primary that she will need in the GE--even though he has no chance at the nomination. The Donald must luuuurv Bernie.
SusanLarson
(284 posts)Sanders is not slandering and bashing Clinton he is highlighting her actual record. If publicizing her record is so bad how can you support her in the first place. Oh ya Cognitive Dissidence...
Definition of cognitive dissonance: psychological conflict resulting from incongruous beliefs and attitudes held simultaneously

It's not something that Sanders started
In 6 seconds by typing '2014 Hillary Clinton Wall Street ties' I found a dozen such articles from 2014 and 2015
You can argue whether or not they have a point and whether you agree with the authors, sources, etc
But they've been out there for years
Unless you somehow think that I have greater skills at finding these stories than the doofenschmirtz campaign does, he'd have used it and it's all out there.
There are lots of people, liberal and conservative who have been questioning her ties to wall street for quite a while
SunSeeker
(51,550 posts)And he promises to divide Dems at the convention with a "contested contest." Sanders is not going to get the nomination. The math makes it virtually impossible. Hillary can lose every remaining state and still win the nomination. Sanders negative campaigning is only helping Trump in the GE.

(51,550 posts)As Rachel Maddow pointed out last night, in 2008, Obama only had a 4% lead in pledged delegates, and needed SDs to get a majority, yet before the convenction Hillary conceded even though she had the majority of popular votes. She did not contest the convention -- she conceded well before the convention and stood firmly in support of Obama at the convention, uniting Democrats.
Rachel went on to point out that Hillary is 11% ahead of Sanders in pledged delegates.
And of course, Hillary has millions more in popular votes than Sanders.
Yet Sanders insists on a divisive contested convention unless Hillary attains the majority of unpledged -- even though 15% of total delegates are SDs. The only way a Dem candidate could get a majority of pledged delegates is by having an utter blowout in the primary. Obama didn't have that. He needed SDs to get a majority of total delegates. Yet Hillary conceded. As she should have. As anyone in Hillary's position should have. Sanders is nowhere near in as strong a position as Hillary was in 2008, yet he won't concede before the convention.

(7,107 posts)Cruz was the biggest danger this country faced.
Trump has ZERO chance in the general election even if my dog won the Democratic nomination.
Trump will absolutely destroy the GOP chances in this election cycle (which is why the GOP professionals were so worried).
It's an absolute disaster for the GOP and a gift to the Democratic Party.
Rejoice!

We gave it everything weve got, but the voters chose another path, Mr. Cruz said at his post-election party.
***
Speaking Tuesday night, Mr. Cruz did not mention Mr. Trump, but did call for a unity of purpose within the GOP in the fight for freedom and against security threats.
Suspending his bid does not forfeit Mr. Cruzs delegates to the convention, but it means hell no longer actively compete for the nomination, leaving only Ohio Gov. John Kasich still in the race.

(10,857 posts)I've been pointing out for a week that his fake-running mate trick only really makes sense if he's planning to bounce out as an independent. He'll be prevented from running in some states but the object will be to take electoral votes away from Trump, while Trump somehow magically takes electoral votes from the Democratic nominee (hey, this is a long-shot scenario to start with, here).
The idea is to make sure that nobody gets to 270. If Republicans can make that happen and not lose the House thanks to the Donald, they can still steal it by not voting on a successor to President Obama--and doing nothing is their strong suit. In that case, Speaker Paul Ryan would inherit the Presidency by default.
Furthermore, Ted and Carly would be able to soak up donations on the #nevertrump scam all the way to November, and keep the campaign cash at the end. Party insiders might even argue that such a run might retain enough interest to prevent Trump from polluting downstream races, even though it likely concedes the White House to the Dems.
Why wouldn't a couple of a-hole sociopaths take that option if they can?
