If Kindasleezy Rice would accept the offer as Trump's running mate - It would affirm my impressions that she'd say yes to anyone if it means throwing her in the spotlight and she has no standards whatsoever.

(3,335 posts)that would not be Condaleeza Rice. She's much too intelligent to get attached to his hip. He claimed it would probably be someone who could complement his shortfall related to the Legislative process. Oh boy, Mr. Trump, if you have to find someone who filled all your political shortcomings you're going to need a whole army.
My guess is his ego will will out and he won't allow himself to pick someone smarter than himself, which is half the people in the country who have completed the 5th Grade. So I think he'll pick Ben Carson so he can try and tap into the Black vote while not having to ever be made to feel inferior as long as Dr. Ben Carson is his wingman and unlikely to pose any challenge to his oversized ego.

(2,062 posts)Thats true, but I don't remember in 2008 hearing Obama or Bust, Hillary or bust. I saw the nominee win with the party support.... not this time.
Have you heard the term PUMA (party united my ass?) In 2008, 53% of Hillary supports said they would not vote for Obama if he was the nominee.

(24,205 posts)and yet a majority did (52.9%), so either the figures are wrong, or a majority of the 53% went to the booth and voted Obama instead of McCain. (69.5 million votes is the highest amount ever won by a presidential candidate) The Sanders group, seems set on not being as forth coming this election... Hopefully (when they enter the voting booth) they will get a mental picture of what Trump would do as president, vs perhaps $12 vs 15 minimum wage, ACA vs single payer, etc, etc.

(6,335 posts)Last night during Trump's "victory" speech, he mentioned that he just got off the phone with Rince Prebus. My guess is they made a horse trade...RNC support for Trump in exchange for Trump support for RNC VP pick. Trump's campaign won't be (and hasn't been) doing the vetting. It's already long done, we're just waiting for the announcement.
Chan790
(20,176 posts)Well, we already knew he was a moron...but I called it 3 months ago.
If Trump wins the nomination or is even close, the RNC will clear the field for him in exchange for getting to pick an establishment VP of their choosing. Given, Priebus doesn't want a President Trump and he's a slimy toad-fuck...he's been doing oppo all along against Trump. For his part, Trump is known from his casino deals in NJ and real estate in NYC to be a guy that greases palms, cuts corners, and defies authority...if he gets elected (he won't...but we're discussing the RNC plan so we assume he will just so we can lay clear the Priebus plan), he will govern the way he runs his business. He will get impeached for it almost immediately...the GOP establishment will vote for the articles saying they're "disappointed in him", the Democrats will vote for his impeachment because he's actually certainly guilty. The House members tasked to make the case will trot out all that oppo as the "legacy of how Trump does things" to assassinate his character and impugn his dignity publicly.
Suddenly, Rinse Penis has all these months ago hand-selected the President for the next 3+ years and managed with one fell swoop to slaughter Trump's anti-establishment revolution in time to try to turn it around by the mid-terms and begin to build a case for the reelection of his pretender President.
Goddamned genius eats the moron alive. Trump has never learned the most important lesson of politics...your opinion of yourself and your superiority will not protect you from alligators smarter & larger than you in the political pond. Priebus is more connected and smarter...and connections are power in politics. It's a game of relationships...and Trump has none politically with anybody he should trust. He's just too egotistical to see it and that he signs the death warrant of his aspirations by not continuing his crusade to dismantle the establishment and rebuild the party in his image.

(10,650 posts)Trump owns the republicans now. He knows it and they know it. Trump for all his bluster isn't an idiot and he doesn't make deals that aren't totally to his benefit.
He'll pick the VP he wants that meets his objectives. The RNC will support him.

Trump will sit at his terrific desk and use his terrific phone to call some more potential terrific veep noms later today.
Ordinarily, it would be difficult for Trump to find someone as horrendous a citizen as he is, but luckily at this point in its history, the GOP bench is very deep indeed with horrendous citizens. They got binders full of horrendous citizens.
Pretty sure he could secure a veep nom before 3:30 Eastern this afternoon.

If not Cruz (perhaps Trump insulted him too many times and vice versa) then maybe someone very presidential, but not too smart. Fiorina would have to be out: way to much of a "loser." Sam, for his part, had better accept the veep slot if Trump offers it, because if he hangs around Kansas much longer, he may find himself "the object of citizens' robust disdain."
Paul LePage is certainly blockheaded and bigoted enough to run as Trump's veep nom.
I'm sure Rick Santorum would accept an offer. So would John Bolton.

(10,857 posts)Usually, and this goes waaaay back, the more chickenhawkish the conservative front-runner, the more militaristic the running mate. Dick Cheney, a former Secretary of Defense, picked himself as W's running mate. Ross Perot picked Admiral James Stockdale. Reagan had combat veteran GHWB. Nixon had Bronze-star winner Spiro Agnew.
Plus Kevin Spacey's narcissistic opponent has a general sidekick, and House of Cards has been absurdly prescient about these things.
Here are six guys with about twenty stars between them who could be on the short list. Two of them are SOCOM generals or admirals, rare as hens' teeth and probably way too smart to run with Trump. Webb ran as a Democrat and is probably also too smart. Allen West might be too tea party to consider an offer. My money is on the Marine, Gen. James Mattis, with Adm. Samuel Locklear a close second.
http://taskandpurpose.com/6-military-leaders-who-could-run-for-president/
Someone was reputed to be vetting Mattis for an independent run against Trump a couple of weeks ago, but deciding not to run could be a tip that Trump got to him first, and that "change of heart" bullshit could work for them. The important thing is that Mattis showed an interest in running at all, which most people with stars don't.
Adm. Locklear, on the other hand, has recently fingered climate change as a destabilizing force and could serve as a powerful triangulator to draw in people who aren't drooling idiots. But he'd have to be picked by a drooling idiot and he'd have to say yes to a drooling idiot, and he's not one. But he got effed over for Chief of Staff. So there's that.
