Ted Cruz's $10 million donor backs Donald Trump

Source: USA Today

WASHINGTON – Toby Neugebauer, a wealthy energy investor, likes Ted Cruz so much that he deposited $10 million into a super PAC designed to boost the Texas Republican’s presidential ambitions.

On Wednesday, Neugebauer was in Donald Trump’s camp after the reality TV star’s big win in the Indiana primary Tuesday ended the campaigns of Cruz and Ohio Gov. John Kasich.

“Today, I am a Trump supporter,” Neugebauer told USA TODAY. “I am excited about the voters he turned up.”

Several Republican donors, including Neugebauer, are moving to unite behind the brash billionaire who vanquished 16 other candidates to emerge as the GOP’s standard-bearer, even as his positions on health care and trade and his harsh rhetoric about women and some immigrants prompted fierce opposition from the party’s establishment wing.

Well that was quick. So much for Republicans not falling in line behind Trump. Like Archie Bunker, he will make racism and sexism acceptable and even endearing. References to torture? Nothing but a little hyperbole. Indeed, now that the primaries are over, expect the media to go into full false equivalency mode. Perhaps we will have panels with a neo-nazi on the one hand and someone from MALDEF on the other with the moderators suggesting that both sides are to blame for the fail.

I am pretty sure that a Democrat would appoint a Supreme Court justice to reverse this decision. Prior Clinton appointees Ginsburg and Breyer, plus Obama appointee Sotomayor voted with the dissent, which wrote that the ruling "threatens to undermine the integrity of elected institutions across the Nation. The path it has taken to reach its outcome will, I fear, do damage to this institution." Also, Kagan argued as Solicitor General in favor of the prohibition of all independent expenditures by corporations. So, I am pretty sure that both Bernie and Hillary would nominate a justice that would overturn the holding in Citizens United. Indeed, Hillary was the subject of the hit piece in Citizens United.

8. I hope Clinton would appoint someone to reverse Citizens United.

But, it's hard to predict how an appointee would actually vote on any one issue. Plus, the SC doesn't often reverse its own decisions.

I don't know if Clinton would push on this issue. She has hotter pushbuttons, plus she benefits from corporate donations.
