School refutes LePage’s claim student repeatedly overdosed

Source: Bangor Daily News

Officials at Deering High School are refuting Gov. Paul LePage’s recent assertion — made during a town hall meeting in Lewiston — that a student overdosed and was revived with an opioid rescue drug several times in one week.

The governor told his story while attempting to defend his decision to veto a bill that would expand access to the overdose reversal drug naloxone, also known as Narcan. LePage has been a frequent critic of the drug, arguing that it enables addicts and normalizes their dependency by giving them a safety net.

At the meeting Wednesday night, he tried to illustrate his point with a story about a junior at Deering.

“A junior at Deering High School had three Narcan shots in one week. And after the third one, he got up and went to class. He didn’t go to the hospital. He didn’t get checked out. He was so used to it. He just came out of it and went to class,” LePage said.

the norm in America today. Politicians, bankers, doctors, preachers, radio pundits, news. My entire 63 years has been lie after lie, fear after fear. People need to call these liars out immediately and tell them we know when you are lying, because we are not stupid.

They are tying themselves in knots trying to explain where he got
the story from. Simpler theory: he pulled it out of his ass.

I know that politicians like LePage lie, but this is just plain evil.
It is good that the legislature overrode his veto.
