Al-Qaeda chief urges jihadist unity

Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahri has urged rival jihadist fighters in Syria to unite or risk death but again decried fellow Sunni Muslim militants Islamic State as "extremists" in an audio recording posted online.

As successor to Osama bin Laden, Zawahri has the allegiance of al-Qaeda branches in the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia. But the group's dominance is being challenged by Islamic State, which controls territory in Syria and Iraq and has followings in Libya and Yemen.

In Syria, al-Qaeda offshoot Nusra Front and Islamic State are the two most powerful groups fighting government forces.

Once a single group, they split in 2013, largely due to a power struggle among leaders.

"We have to want the unity of the Mujahideen in Sham (Syria) so it will be liberated from the Russians and Western crusaders. My brothers ... the matter of unity is a matter of life or death for you," Zawahri said in the online post on Sunday.

Note: The authenticity of the recording could not be immediately verified, but it has the hallmarks of previous Zawahri tapes.

What's the point of rebroadcasting Al-Qaeda's war cries as breaking news?

Here's a news flash, they've been pushing similar messages since Russia got dragged into a decade old war in Afghanistan with the help of the U.S. government, who incidentally funded a jihadist name Osama bin Laden.

This as BN has questionable origins and purpose.

Hey, you got me! I'm also employed by the Freemasons, the International Jewish Conspiracy, the Koch brothers, and, of course, the Illuminati!

Is this breaking news and/or does anything that a terrorist organization says newsworthy? No, and never should be. Just as born-again Christians threatening to kill Planned Parenthood clinic doctors isn't news nor should be breaking news. Hate groups should not qualify.

The fact that you found a link to an obscure foreign news story, should tip you off that maybe this story is less than critical to the entire world...and thus, not breaking news.
