West Virginia Election Polls 2016: Bernie Sanders Leads Hillary Clinton Ahead of Dem. Primary Vote

Source: IBT

Ahead of the presidential primary Tuesday in West Virginia, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders leads Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton in the polls there. The latest survey by MetroNews found Sanders holding a four-point lead over Clinton.

Repass Research and Strategic Consulting conducted the poll between April 22 and May 2 for MetroNews, a radio network in the state. Sanders garnered 47 percent of likely Democratic voters in West Virginia to Clinton's 43 percent. Eleven percent were undecided.

Clinton leads Sanders in the delegate race 1,701 to 1,411 and is generally expected to be the party's nominee in the general election. She needs to take just 17 percent of the remaining delegates to win the nomination, according to CBS News. There will be 37 delegates up for grabs in the West Virginia Democratic primary.

Sanders edged out Clinton in the poll largely by attracting the youth vote. "The key, of course, for Sanders is a high turnout with young voters, while Clinton’s support is generally older, those with a college degree or post-graduate degree and upper-income Democrats," Rex Repass, CEO of Repass Research and director of the MetroNews West Virginia poll, said in part. ~ Con't.

It's about a national movement that has brought millions to the polls to vote in favor of the policies he has championed. An independently funded campaign that has been extremely competitive in many states, including West Virginia. A fair observer, especially a fair-minded Democratic observer, would think about the significance of the Sanders campaign as a referendum on opinion within the party and as a potential base of support for the general election. But, short-sighted thinking about the big picture and dismissing the will of the voters in a state primary is also a choice open to you. Have at it.

Democrats have voted for him, in the millions.

The party purity test is passe. Issues matter. Political parties are just interest groups, anyway, and if party identification leads to groupthink rather than problem solving, then the parties are not helping.

But, purity over principle is also an option.

BERNIE VISITS WEST VIRGINIA: Rally in Huntington, Home of Marshall University, Views of WV, KY, OH Residents.

HUNTINGTON FEELS THE BERN: SANDERS VISITS WEST VIRGINIA, Tuesday, April 26, 2016 -

HUNTINGTON — Even rain couldn’t dampen the spirits of supporters for Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders as thousands lined Veterans Memorial Boulevard waiting for a chance to hear the presidential candidate speak at Big Sandy Superstore Arena.
“The masses are assembled for positive change,” said Nick Johnson, 27, of Nicholas County. Johnson was carrying a wooden sign that read “Don’t fall for Trump change, make a real movement for revolution, Appalachia needs y’all.” He said he wouldn’t be allowed to take it inside the arena. Johnson, whose right hand was dotted with black paint from making the sign, said he was at the rally because he feels like the Sanders campaign is making steps toward positive change. He said he is a socialist and that Sanders, also a socialist, is the best candidate in the field.
Susan Ofsa, 58, of Pipestem, is an elementary school teacher. Her gray hair stood out from the rest of the crowd and she had Sanders’ wild white hair and thick glasses painted on her face in a silhouette. Sanders isn’t far enough to the left for her, but he’s close. “I think he’s going to help the whole country and we’re just going to go right along with it,” she said.
Ken Smith, a Huntington resident, has been casting his vote for Democratic candidates for decades. He has voted in every election since 1988, he said. But the 50-year-old said no candidate has ever resonated with him personally like Sanders has. The Vermont senator’s constant focus on income inequality in the United States, Smith said, is an honest representation of the state of the country’s economy.

Donna Morgan, president of West Virginia Public Workers Union Local 170, stood in line with the rest of the avid Sanders supporters, even though she was scheduled to be next to the stage during his speech. She said there was one primary reason she and her fellow union members were out in support of Sanders’ campaign: free health care. If the controversy over public employee benefits in West Virginia has shown one thing, Morgan said, it is that something needs to be done to guarantee quality health insurance for everyone in the country. She called the West Virginia Legislature’s failure to fix public employee benefits “beyond ridiculous.” If large corporations were stopped from offshoring their businesses in other countries and hiding profits in foreign accounts, Morgan said following comments made by the Sanders campaign, the country wouldn’t have a problem affording health care for all.
Harry Smith, 67, has worked in a number of businesses in his life, but he’s retired now. He said he thinks the candidate’s platform of free college would help a lot of people. “I think he could bring jobs here,” Smith said. “I think his progressive stance on jobs is going to bring businesses here.”
Gabrielle Gardner, another Huntington resident, said she would cast a vote for Sanders because of his support for making public college free for everyone. The practicing speech pathologist, who sported a shirt featuring Sanders petting a cat, said she doesn’t want future generations to be over-burdened by student loan debt, like she is. “I’ll be paying it off till I’m 50, and I don’t want that for my children,” she said.

Matthew White, a native of Beckley, said Sanders’ campaign matches with his beliefs on more affordable college tuition, women’s rights and the need for an increased minimum wage. White, who is attending Marshall University, said he also appreciates the dialogue that the Sanders campaign has put forward regarding the country’s “racial dilemma.”
Jocelyn Hively, a native of Marietta, Ohio, said her family, and especially her father, has always voted Republican. The Marshall University student saw the rally as a chance, for the first time, to gauge her political leanings for herself, instead of relying on the opinions of her parents. “Republican is all I know,” she said, adding that she still wasn’t 100 percent for Sanders.
Austin Workman, 18, is a student at Chapmanville Regional High School and was wearing a suit so he could represent his school well. His teachers let him out of class an hour early so he and a friend could drive to the rally from Logan County. He likes Sanders but thinks that, if the Vermont senator doesn’t get the nomination, he’ll vote for Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, a Republican. “I kind of like different things on both sides,” Chapman said.

When it comes to whom people would vote for if Sanders doesn’t win the nomination, the audience was torn. Raven Stormhall, a 19-year-old Kenova resident who will take part in her first election on May 10, said she supports Sanders because she believes he is a candidate for the people. But her support for Sanders might not translate into support for a Democratic candidate if he doesn’t win the party’s primary. Stormhall’s shirt said it all. The back of the homemade white T-shirt read: “#NeverHillary.” “If Hillary wins the nomination, I will not take part this year,” Stormhall said. “Bernie or bust.” Nicole Koren, Stormhall’s mother, disagreed. If Sanders doesn’t garner enough delegates to win the nomination, she will show up in November to cast her ballot for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Clinton isn’t her favorite candidate, but the alternative of having a Republican in the White House is worse, she said.
Angie Blackwell, 28, also said she’d vote for Clinton, because she didn’t trust any other candidate. “We still need to vote,” Blackwell said. “It’s our right; it’s what people fought for.”
But Pepper Hedden, 73, said she doesn’t want to think about what would happen if Sanders doesn’t get the nomination. “I’ve been around for a long time and seen a lot of changes in this country,” she said, “and this is the change we need right now.”

35. Hillary will never release her delegates to Bernie
Mon May 9, 2016, 04:15 PM

Hillary will release her delegates to whomever the Democratic Party has deemed her replacement.

Biden will name Bernie as VP though.

If you pay attention to the media, Biden has been leveraged a great deal. They're putting him out front more often. He's also come forward to say some very nice things about Bernie (and some not-so-flattering things about Clinton).

This is most likely going down.

I get really pissed when I see Hillary supporters mocking Democrats who want to discuss this very serious FBI investigation into her illegal, unsecure server. This investigation has been ongoing for a year. This is not a right-wing attack, as Hillary fans suggest. This is a very serious issue for our party. I went back and read more than 100 articles about Clinton's server and the investigation--and I researched the law too. The media has made it very difficult to understand this complex legal case. However, it is clear that she deserves to be indicted. It is clear that she violated the NDA that she signed when she became SOS; she agreed to properly handle classified information and she never set up the .gov email address that was standard-issue. The State Department has all ready said that she sent "thousands" of classified emails over that server and 22 that are "Top Secret" which means that they cannot be made public as they would "pose a grave danger to the United States.

Also, she was supposed to hand over her server to the FBI. She deleted 30,000 emails, claiming they were work-related. It is fact that she didn't hand over emails between herself and Sid Blumenthal in which they discussed Libya and security in Libya. Several of the emails between Clinton and Blumenthal (that she DID hand over) were so sensitive that they were redacted completely or partially.

When Guccifer hacked into Blumenthal's emails he also posted a screenshot of his Inbox. There are several emails to Clinton, and at least one of them she did not turn over to the FBI. That email is about Libya. So...she could have Obstruction of Justice or Evidence Tampering charges against her.

This is low-hanging fruit that I've been able to dig up on the Internet. Our party needs to prepare for this. This is a DEMOCRATIC ISSUE that could throw our party into chaos. We should at least be discussing this, or aware of what's happening in the investigation.

I don't think WVU is polling the primary, but data agencies are tracking the West Virginia election.

Even though they're certain she's already won, they already locked my LBN thread that contained this very same news!

Why are they so mad? XD Bernie will win WV. Yet some Hillary supporters want to shit the bed with anxiety at this news. I thought Hillary already won?

What a time to be alive.

That's his specialty, winning states that look like West Virginia (which only has 29 delegates, by the way).

But large, diverse states like Pennsylvania, New York, Texas, Arizona, Florida . . . not so much.

And don't celebrate new York and Arizona. They were fucked out of their voting rights, neither were fair contests.

Millions of people were screwed out of their votes in those places. It's a real concern.

But I already know your position. That was hilarious yesterday. Basically, fuck the issues, Hillary's winning! XD

50. Winning is about momentum
Mon May 9, 2016, 05:34 PM
May 2016

The way the American political system works is kind of weird as many are just now learning. The most popular candidate does not always win. And sometimes it's so close its impossible to know. That is iwhy the founders inserted mechanisms to make the process possible to navigate. They did not all like the idea of parties. And GW was an indipendendent candidate. The simply created the electoral college, and that way the educated people , men at that time only, would decide the issue. And they still techniquly can if they have to. And they have , in the past. And then there's the Gore Vrs Bush precident wherein it is written that the supreme Court can decide the election if they so choose to. So yes anything can happen.
You Hillary supporters should just be nice because Bernie may catch her in Cali and Oregon.

After he won lots in a row, Clinton thrashed in New York and PA, MD, DE. And afetr those thrashings, Sanders won Indiana. Not seeing momentum as a big factor really.

So more men can die in the mines operated by people who could give a rats ass about the environment or their lives. Duke Energy will gladly kill your men and pollute your water, just vote for Sander's and he will help them do it. But don't dare talk about moving into alternative fuel industry or education for your children so they can rise above the mines and find a better life Yea that's where I would want to be.

job replacement with the people of WV if you followed any of his recent events there. Who knows better than residents of a coal state the damage, pollution and exploitation that industry has done to their health, lives, communities and the environment. Appalachian people would gladly work in other occupations, IF they existed.
Many area residents and experts are familiar with and seek renewable energy sources, but implementing them will take place only when real inroads are made into the dominance and power of the oil and gas energy sector and the collaborating business and political infrastructure that blocks bringing in alternative employment opportunities and economic development.

Movie Trailer, THE LAST MOUNTAIN (2011)

In the valleys of Appalachia, a battle is being fought over a mountain. It is a battle with severe consequences that affect every American, regardless of their social status, economic background or where they live. It is a battle that has taken many lives and continues to do so the longer it is waged. It is a battle over protecting our health and environment from the destructive power of Big Coal.
The mining and burning of coal is at the epicenter of America’s struggle to balance its energy needs with environmental concerns. Nowhere is that concern greater than in *COAL RIVER VALLEY, West Virginia, where a small but passionate group of ordinary citizens are trying to stop Big Coal corporations, like Massey Energy, from continuing the devastating practice of Mountain Top Removal.

MARIA GUNNOE, Boone County, WV resident and awarded environmental activist.

JOE LOVETT, activist, attorney, founder and exec. director, the Appalachian Center for the Economy and the Environment.

-Blankenship Sentenced to Year in Prison, Apr 8, 2016, Don Blankenship, the former CEO of Massey Energy who was convicted in December of the misdemeanor of conspiring to violate mine safety laws, has been sentenced to a year in prison and a $250,000 fine. Blankenship's prosecution resulted from the investigation of the Upper Big Branch mine explosion, which killed 29 miners, in the Coal River community on April 5, 2010.

-New Flyover Photos And TV News Report Of Our Work, Mar 12, 2016
On March 8, Coal River Mountain Watch's Vernon Haltom took WOWK TV reporter Hillary Hall on a flyover with Southwings volunteer pilot David Warner. This was David’s first Southwings flight and Hillary’s first flight in a small plane. We got a good look at the destructive expansion of mountaintop removal on Coal River Mountain, the areas not yet permitted or started, the dismal progress of “reclamation” at the idled Edwight and Twilight sites, and a quick look at the KD#2 and Rich Creek sites near Charleston.

The people and environment of West Virginia have been exploited and plundered far too long by industry, Big Coal and corrupt internal politicians. It's got to change, through the movement and political revolution.~ The ocean beaches, Blue Mountains and waterfalls of Jamaica are some of the most amazing I've ever seen, sigh..
