Nothing To Say: Hillary Clinton Refuses To Respond To Trumps Comments She Was Enabler To Bill Clintons Marital Infidelities
May 9, 2016 6:53 PM
LOUDON COUNTY, Va. (CBSNewYork/AP) Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton is refusing to respond to Donald Trumps recent comments that she was an enabler of former President Bill Clintons marital infidelities during his political career.
The former secretary of state told reporters following an event in a Virginia suburb that she has nothing to say about the presumptive Republican nominee and how hes running his campaign.
Im not running against him. Hes doing a fine job of doing that himself. Im running my campaign, what I want to do as president, what I stand for, what I always stood for, and what I believe is going to make a difference for the people of this country, Hillary Clinton said.
....................
Hillary Clinton told reporters shes answering Trump on what I think voters care about, including on differences between our records, our experience, what we want to do for our country.
According to CBS News, Clinton has 2,228 of the 2,383 needed to secure the Democratic nomination...................

Good for Hillary. The Clintons decided to stay together as a family. It is nobodies business at this point. I am glad she did not say anything about it. Time for all and media to shut up about ancient history.
Hillary was in VA today--the media reports on the smears--little about her issues.

Hillary would be wise to continue doing that. These personal questions are none of anybody's business. I choose to not live a tabloid life.

Yes, she needs to ignore it. No one can force her to address the issue and it's clearly not something that will come up in the debates!
PLUS the subject has already been written to death by the press. It's all water under the bridge-- we've moved on.

If nothing, else, maybe he'll make history by losing 100% of the women's voter. And to quote my late mother whenever she saw Bush, Jr on T.V. "He's such an ass." I'm sure she'd feel the same about Donny.

Trump will just bluster himself into a frothing self loathing steaming pile.

(30,247 posts)He managed to do it to some of his Republican opponents and they came out looking worse for it. Trump is a bully, by ignoring his coarse remarks, Hillary is not giving him a chance to respond in kind.
His crass discourse may have gone well with the Republican base, but it won't sell to the large majority of Americans. The more vulgar he becomes, the more presidential she looks.

Whoever wins the Democratic nomination has to remember the down-ticket: Win the SCOTUS, the Senate, sweat the House, and take some state Legislatures & Governorships. The Donald can only see his ego as he wrecks the Republican party that is in prime condition for wrecking.

Of course, if you consistently fail to respond in order for voters to see what a crass, classless jerk Trump is, is that putting too much faith in American voters, especially since the republican variety seemed to love his act?

(260 posts)agreeing with the whole don't respond thing, but now I'm not so sure. Hillary is going to have to face the music sooner or later. She does not have to get in the mud with him, but she could respond to him in a way that makes him look very bad. The general election is different than the primary. She could say, "We had bad times in our marriage just like any couple, but I'm here to try and make things better in our country and to provide you with my solutions to the issues in this country," something on that level, but not argue with him.
Hugin
(33,112 posts)And not be dragged onto the one prepared by Trump and his allies.
That's why I said it is not good to get drawn into the mud with him, but she has to respond to him sooner or later. Trump does not give you a choice. You do not have a choice when you are debating and believe me, he will bring it up then. I say it would be good for her to say "yes we went through it and it was not the best of times, but I am here to talk about what is best for the country" and move on.

Not at all germane to the election no matter what your position is but that's the tone our presidential election will take.
Trump is determined to turn the United States presidential election into a tabloid, scratching cat fight.
