Boone Pickens: I support Trump and his plan to ban unvetted Muslim immigrants
Source: Yahoo News
Billionaire energy tycoon T. Boone Pickens reiterated his support behind Donald Trump for president on Wednesday.
Speaking at the SALT Conference in Las Vegas, Pickens stated: Yes, Im for Donald Trump.
Pickens, 87, said that the immigration policy needs to change. He also agrees with Trumps idea to propose a ban on Muslim immigration into the US.
I like his immigration policy," Pickens said. "I didnt say its permanent. But Id cut off the Muslims coming into the United States until we can vet these people."

The man who funded swift boat veterans for truth smears against John Kerry is throwing in with Donald Trump. Big surprise.

(3,051 posts)Is a mess, and it has little to do with the potential of Islamic terrorism (although, this will happen, due to the laws of large numbers -- bad apples will get here).
A better, non-bigoted, solution, which would make both sides of the isle happy would be to take a pause on ALL immigration, as was done during 1950-1970s.
Labor wages are stagnant due to the simple fact that immigrants are willing to work for cheap.
Slow the supply of cheap labor (really slave labor in a lot of instances) and wages will rise.
Then we can ignore complex issues like the minimum wage, etc, because economics will take care of it.

(3,051 posts)Need to be handled with compassion and some common sense. Send some back, keep others. There should be a lot of middle ground here if people think through this rationally and without racism.
The untold story of immigration is how working class whites, blacks (especially), and existing Hispanics are getting screwed by cheap labor --- in order to make certain rich people richer. (Cheap labor also makes their services better at a lower prices -- maids, for example.)
Stopping the flow to a trickle will do wonders for the working poor. Employers will have no choice but to pay them more.
I am not sure how this became a right/left issue. I think probably because of the right's racism made us knee-jerk to oppose them.

The Washington Post says that "perhaps the strangest role" Pickens "has fashioned for himself is his current one: the billionaire speculator as energy wise man, an oil-and-gas magnate as champion of wind power, and a lifetime Republican who has become a fellow traveler among environmentally minded Democrats."
He appeared much on MSNBC back in the day. I knew there was nothing green about him other than maybe a tie. He wanted to make even more money from natural gas.

(6,036 posts)What vetting should be done on anyone entering the country be they immigrant, citizen, resident alien, tourist etc. What were the historical vetting processes used at places like Ellis Island or the vetting of newly arrived colonists back in the day. IMO most Americans expect their government to do something to try and screen out the would be axe murderers and people convicted of genocide.

(26,060 posts)donnie's story. Donnie has said nothing about UNVETTED Muslims. He's talking about ALL Muslims. I certainly wouldn't have a problem with waiting until someone is thoroughly vetted before being allowed entry (which I believe is the policy now). Why would anyone?
