17 schoolgirls die in dormitory fire in northern Thailand

BANGKOK (THE NATION/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - A schoolgirl boarding house in Chiang Rai was burnt down late Sunday night (May 22), killing 17 girls and injuring five others.
Two girls were still unaccounted for, police said.
The fire broke out at the boarding house of Pithakkiart Witthaya School in Wiengpapao district at 11 pm local time, police said.
The girls who died in the fire were between five and 12 years old.
