Rights group: Israeli army probes of soldiers a fig leaf

JERUSALEM (AP) — A leading Israeli rights group says it will stop seeking investigations of Israeli soldiers suspected of abusing Palestinians, arguing that internal military probes have failed to deliver justice.

B'Tselem said Wednesday these probes are deeply flawed, create a "mere semblance of justice" and effectively help whitewash half century of military rule over Palestinians.

It says it will stop cooperating "with a system whose real function is measured by its ability to successfully cover up unlawful acts and protect perpetrators."

The Israeli military had no immediate comment.

Cover up? Please! Whether you agree with IDF policies or not, you have to acknowledge that the Israelis have always been extremely scrupulous about just what they're doing. I debated whether or not I should post this, because it'll doubtless be used by the Israel-bashers to "prove" their "points." But I decided to go ahead, because "Blame Israel First" groups like B'Tselem really piss me off!

1. BDS advocates take note of the rest of the article

A leading Israeli rights group said Wednesday it will stop seeking investigations of Israeli soldiers suspected of abusing Palestinians, arguing that internal military probes have failed to deliver justice and effectively help whitewash half a century of occupation.

In a rebuke to the military justice system, the Israeli group B'Tselem said military investigations are deeply flawed and create a "mere semblance of justice."

Hagai El-Ad, the group's executive director, said B'Tselem would stop cooperating with a system it cannot trust.

"The system's real function is cover-ups," he said. He said once the group reached that "painful conclusion ... we found it morally unacceptable for us to continue working in the same way."

Israel is the only country in the mid-east where a rights group such as this could exist. If such a group existed in an Arab country they would all be thrown in prison and never seen again. Except in Saudi Arabia, where they would be publicly flogged.

I disagree with many policies of Israel and I am strongly opposed to Netanyahu, but it is the only country in the mid-east where the actions government can be freely criticized. And that is one of the most fundamental of all human rights.

2. I'm really sorry that B'Tselem pisses you off ....

Perhaps you need to study the report in more depth ??

For you and any others reading here .....more info :

B’Tselem – The Israeli Information Center for Human Rights in the Occupied Territories was established in 1989 by a group of prominent academics, attorneys, journalists, and Knesset members. It endeavors to document and educate the Israeli public and policymakers about human rights violations in the Occupied Territories, combat the phenomenon of denial prevalent among the Israeli public, and help create a human rights culture in Israel.

The report @ :

Resource: The myriad failings of Israeli military investigations
After 25 years of assisting Palestinian victims of Israeli military violence file complaints with the IDF’s investigative bodies, human rights group B’Tselem decides to stop cooperating with the army’s investigations. ‘The experience we have gained, on which we base the conclusions presented in this report, has brought us to the realization that there is no longer any point in pursuing justice and defending human rights by working with a system whose real function is measured by its ability to continue to successfully cover up unlawful acts and protect perpetrators.’

Read more here about how and why B’Tselem’s decided to stop referring complaints to the Israeli military law enforcement.
