Brazil: Two new recordings implicate plotters

posted by James Tweedie in World

MORE recordings have emerged of Brazilian coup regime figures plotting to hush up a huge corruption scandal.

Two senior members of interim President Michel Temer’s Brazilian Democratic Movement Party (PMDB) were caught on tape discussing how to stymie probes into the multimillion-pound bribery scandal at state oil firm Petrobras.

The transcripts were published in newspaper Folha de Sao Paulo on Wednesday, less than two weeks after vice-president Mr Temer took power following the right-wing impeachment of his erstwhile ally Dilma Rousseff.

In the first recording, Senate Speaker Renan Calheiros is heard in conversation with ex-senator Sergio Machado, former head of another state oil company Transpetro, proposing legal changes to bar the use of plea bargain testimony.

Dilma's crime is being a leftist!

It appears there's a death sentence which comes with being a leftist in a right-wing "democracy."

Lol!

And how relevant! I feel like I'm being crowded by pod people here at DU these days.

On the OP topic: Thank you, Judi Lynn, for your awesome work here at DU! I've learned so much from your posts. They are an education in themselves!

And how lovely that the fascists in Brazil have turned out to be so stupid! Getting taped!

I think Dilma Rousseff, Lula da Silva, Mel Zelaya, Fernando Lugo, and others, should march into the United Nations General Assembly and ask for a united front against these coups and help in reversing them. I don't know if Obama is collusive. I hope not. He doesn't have that Secretary of State any more, so maybe his better angels will speak to him and the U.S. will, at long last, and after so much grief, support democracy in Latin America. Obama's opening to Cuba makes me hopeful that he cares what most Latin Americans think.

Maybe I'm dreaming. Am I dreaming?

I know what Bernie Sanders would do--but of course that's why the powers that be are trying so hard to keep him out of the White House!

Like Kissinger said about Democracy, it's too important to be left up to the People
