BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) The tentative agreement ending the nations biggest strike in decades includes nearly 11 percent raises, the promise of hundreds of new jobs and stability for the next four years.
On Monday, Verizon and its 40,000 hourly workers announced a tentative agreement, and most importantly, a return to work for most members on June 1.
The 45-day strike affected hundreds of members of the CWA and IBEW in western New York. Over the past month and a half, demonstrations and rallies were held outside Verizons locations downtown and retail stores across the area.
CWA national representatives said the TA was a big win for the union.

(29,214 posts)I have contacted the company often during the last month to urge them to settle with employees, and assured them if they couldn't I would no longer be a customer. I hope a million other customers did the same. I've always appreciated the professional service at the retail outlets and glad these folks will come under contract as well. Sounds like a good deal, good for them for sticking together.
