Independent candidate to take on Trump revealed

Source: CNN.com

Bill Kristol's white knight independent presidential candidate is a fellow conservative writer with no national name recognition: David French.
Kristol, the editor of The Weekly Standard magazine and a leader of the conservative movement to find an alternative to likely major-party nominees Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, confirmed to CNN Special Correspondent Jamie Gangel on Tuesday that the search has zeroed in on French.
Kristol's focus on French was first reported by Bloomberg Politics.
French is a writer for another conservative publication, National Review, and a constitutional lawyer. He's also an Iraq war veteran and a Bronze Star recipient.

No word yet on whether or not French will actually run.

2. No name recognition?

Mr. French became a household name thanks to the TV series "Family Affair".

He later founded the French's mustard dynasty, which sadly fell on hard times during the "Freedom Fries" era.

3. Here is a brief background of French

"Like a good Kristol-approved third-party alternative, French cheers the acquittal of an officer involved in Freddie Gray’s death; repeatedly parades the widely debunked “Ferguson effect” myth about a “war on cops”; exhibits a particular obsession with painting transgender individuals as “mentally unstable,” “troubled,” and “absurd” people; dutifully deflects the conversation over racial tensions to calling for abortion bans; and seems to believe that gays simply seek to “redefine sin as freedom.”
Perhaps his most shining moment, however, came following the death of beloved rocker Prince. As a nation grieved, Kristol’s champion-in-waiting offered up a verbose essay full of faux-intellectual pomposity—invoking Marx and “post-virtue culture”—to whine about Americans daring to consider the beloved rocker a “hero.”

Kristol (and other Neocons) are on the record preferring Hillary Clinton.

Bill Kristol’s #NeverTrump candidate pick severely mocked by right wingers: ‘Just join Hillary’s campaign’

Bill Kristol speaks to ABC News (screen grab)

If Weekly Standard founder Bill Kristol thought he could generate excitement for a conservative presidential candidate to oppose Donald Trump, his instincts were as correct as … they typically are.

As The Hill reported on Tuesday, Kristol is allegedly trying to convince David French, an Iraq War veteran and attorney who writes for the National Review, to mount a bid on behalf of the #NeverTrump contingent.

But early indications are that even if French does decide to run, Kristol’s involvement makes his campaign anti-climactic — at best, as seen below.

So Kristol selects a minor writer at a dying conservative rag that's been getting destroyed by Twitter nazis for the last year?#DavidFrench

Bill Kristol has lost his ever-loving mind!
Just join Hillary's campaign and end the charade.

10. Sadly, no. French is just a conservative columnist, who didn't even have his own Wikipedia page

until this farce was announced. He's also an asshole, as Roy Edroso, who writes a column on right-wing bloggers, explains:

PARDON MY FRENCH.

Are you shitting me:

Conservative columnist Bill Kristol is working to recruit David French, a writer for National Review, as a third-party presidential candidate, CBS News has confirmed.

"A group approached French, he's considering it seriously and is in contact with lots of serious people," a source with knowledge of the effort told CBS News.

I have followed French's career at National Review and will just quickly tell you that he's not only against gay marriage, he's also against Griswold v Connecticut, the decision that invalidated laws against contraception ("Is there a single legal doctrine that can stand against the quest for personal sexual fulfillment?" French thundered); that he denounced the widespread mourning of Prince's death on the grounds that "Prince was ultimately just another talented and decadent voice in a hedonistic culture... notable mainly because he was particularly effective at communicating that decadence to an eager and willing audience"; that he has compared Kim Davis, that crazy clerk who refused to sign gay marriage licenses, to "men like Martin Luther, John Calvin, and John Knox — the men who first put the 'protest' in 'Protestant'"; that he -- well, I'm out of time for the moment, but you can peruse the archive for more if you can stand it. The point is, he makes Trump look like Eisenhower.

http://alicublog.blogspot.com/2016/05/pardon-my-french.html

He is far less important than the Libertarian nomination of 2 ex-Republican governors - Johnson and Weld - and I don't think they're very important. Maybe he's as important to this race as Lawrence Lessig was.

15. Bonus: Mrs. French was Bristol Palin's ghostwriter and actual author of Bristol's blog on Patheos.

And probably also the main contributor to Sarah's Facebook page, since neither that nor "Bristol's blog" have had any updates since early May.

I wonder if the Palin support for Trump caused David to lay down the law about using Facebook again? ("I don't mind if you sell your soul, Nancy, but you've got to sell it to people on the same side as who I'm selling out to.&quot
