Helen Chavez dies at 88

She avoided the limelight even as her husbands public image became well known around the world. But her commitment to the idea of a union that would for the first time represent the least powerful among us never wavered.
Helen Fabela Chavez, wife of United Farm Workers union co-founder Cesar Chavez, died Monday in Bakersfield.
She was 88.
Helen Chavez played a vital role helping her husband give birth to what became the first enduring farm workers union in U.S. history and sustained Cesar Chavez during the 31 years he led the United Farm Workers of America, the Cesar Chavez Foundation said in a news release.
