Hillary Clinton has reached a majority of pledged delegates, according to projections from three networks and FiveThirtyEight.
The Associated Press crowned Clinton the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Monday evening after additional superdelegates pledged to support her at the Philadelphia convention. The superdelegate support catapulted Clinton to the 2,383-delegate mark, enough to clinch the Democratic nomination.
But Bernie Sanders campaign has argued that if the Vermont senator can win a majority of the pledged delegates, that reality could sway superdelegates to support his campaign, which has generally fared better than Clinton in hypothetical general election polls against Donald Trump.
In a statement on Monday, Sanders spokesman Michael Briggs said that Clinton "does not have and will not have the requisite number of pledged delegates to secure the nomination. She will be dependent on superdelegates who do not vote until July 25 and who can change their minds between now and then."

(30,247 posts)Tonight history was made. I was teary eyed when I heard her speech. I thought how much she must have wished that her mom was still alive to see her become the first woman to be the presumptive nominee of a major political party.
This is for all the women who came before us, the women who fought for the right to vote and for women's rights.
This one is for you.
