Trump Says 'No Reason' to Raise $1 Billion for Campaign

Source: Bloomberg

Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump distanced himself from his own fundraising estimate of $1 billion, refusing to commit to collecting even half that amount, and saying his campaign didn't need much money to win the White House.

Trump, who has held just two major fundraising events since agreeing three weeks ago to help the party raise cash, said he would rely instead more on his own star power as a former reality-TV personality to earn free media, and has no specific goals for how much money his campaign needs.

...snip...

Trump also spoke at length about his controversial real-estate program, Trump University, despite a lengthy statement a day earlier in which he said he did "not intend to comment on this matter any further." He continued to insist that he's been treated unfairly in the case, and pointed to positive reviews of the school. "Another said, 'I went to Harvard and this was better,'" Trump said. He declined say whether he agreed or disagreed with that assessment, adding, "The experience was very good for a lot of people."

The folks here who insist Trump will beat Clinton really need to think about what kind of candidate he's going to be.

"The folks here who insist Trump will beat Clinton really need to think about what kind of candidate he's going to be."

I don't get it. Folks here think Trump has a good chance because of the numbers and empirical evidence.... what people think here will matter not as far as Trump goes - or Hillary for that matter.

While we take jabs at Trump, we need to be resolving some of the serious flaws with Hillary that, IMO, are just as devastating.

Take this as constructive criticism, please.

We are obviously talking about the Primaries and not the GE as you say here:

Swing States? Demographics? Electoral College? Total number of votes received?

Do those apply to trump? No, they apply against Sanders... Therefore, I gave another metric in which Sanders beats the pants off of Hillary. You can squirm away changing the basic premise (Primaries/GE) as you go, but that doesn't make you smart.

Total # votes received:

Hillary = 9.36 Million
Trump = 13.3 Million

Can't do math? Maybe so. You do understand that if more people vote for Trump, she loses, right? See what happens when I play dumb and apply stuff to the GE instead of what the OP was blatantly pertaining to?

The only people who hate Trump worse than Democrats are the 60% of Republicans who voted for some other candidate.

He doesn't have the support of committed Conservatives, thinking conservatives, traditional party Republicans, and has royally pissed off the anti-choice and other "family values" type voters who do the grunt work of Republican campaigns. In short, he doesn't have support of the core movement Republicans.

In sum, he has no ability to raise money. He's on his own.

Wed Jun 8, 2016, 03:38 PM
Jun 2016

Donald Trump's campaign organization is under-staffed and has not set up its national field offices. They are far behind in their operations. Because of his inexperience, Mr. Trump thinks that he'll be able to wing it once the General Election really gets underway.

In contrast, Hillary Clinton has been building her organization and planning strategies for years. Her fundraising mechanism is sophisticated and well-funded. Coupled with the DNC, her national organization is in place.

As an example of his naiveté, the idea that he'll be able to get the same level of free media coverage that he received during the primary is ludicrous. I think the media gave him a free pass during the Republican primaries because it was good for their ratings and bank accounts. But with the presidential election, Mr. Trump is going to face a tougher set of hurdles and I think he's grossly unprepared for what's coming.

If I'm even partly right, it's all good for our side.

Jun 2016

Trump assumes that the General election will just be a re-run of the primaries, that what worked in the primaries will also work in the General. He doesn't seem to realize that he has to reach and move a much broader spectrum of voters, that he is not competing against 16 other Republicans, that he is not flying on the radar, is no longer a novelty, not running against a bunch of candidates who will refrain from head-on attacks against him out of fear of alienating his voters who they hoped to inherit once he drop out of the race. I hope he keeps thinking like this, but I can't believe the "wiser" more experienced heads in the Republican party aren't screaming at him behind closed doors about this sort of thing.
