BREAKING: At least nine wounded in shooting attack in central Tel Aviv: police
Source: Rueters
At least nine people were wounded on Wednesday in a shooting incident in central Tel Aviv and one person was in critical condition, with Israeli police describing the shooting as an apparent attack aimed against Israelis.
The incident occurred in an area of trendy cafes and restaurants very close to the central military headquarters and Defence Ministry compound.
The attack was the first following in lull after almost daily street attacks by Palestinians against Israelis which began in October and lasted several months.

(3,967 posts)Why would you say such a thing?
The people who did this are terrorist murderers.
Those people - it is not the universe, and not us, it is the people who did it and helped it who are evil. We should not pretend that they are just good people who did a bad thing, like all of us do sometimes. Please.

(9,904 posts)Horrific and incredibly sad for thier loved ones but when I say we, not necessarily you or I, I mean our species, our group so to speak, terrorists labels can become confusing when all the details become known, rarely does that happen and even rarer still does enough people listen nor care to listen......

You may I have, but I presume not.
So no, we are very different from these religious fanatics.

(9,904 posts)should be held responsible, only those who pulled the trigger, I agree, I believe we are all capable in certain scenerios, but when it comes time to pull the trigger, you yourself retain 99 % blame..as it should be. Perhaps people would be more apt to use the gift of a brain wisely if they were able to fully justify such horrific acts......

(478 posts)Despite a long-term peace process and the general reconciliation of Israel with Egypt and Jordan, Israelis and Palestinians have failed to reach a final peace agreement. The remaining key issues are: mutual recognition, borders, security, water rights, control of Jerusalem, Israeli settlements,[11] Palestinian freedom of movement,[12] and Palestinian right of return. The violence of the conflict, in a region rich in sites of historic, cultural and religious interest worldwide, has been the object of numerous international conferences dealing with historic rights, security issues and human rights, and has been a factor hampering tourism in and general access to areas that are hotly contested.[13]
Many UN resolutions condemning Israel (70+)
Aside from the core issuesrefugees, Jerusalem, bordersthe major themes reflected in the U.N. resolutions against Israel over the years are its unlawful attacks on its neighbors; its violations of the human rights of the Palestinians, including deportations, demolitions of homes and other collective punishments; its confiscation of Palestinian land; its establishment of illegal settlements; and its refusal to abide by the U.N. Charter and the 1949 Fourth Geneva Convention Relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War.
Yep, it's just hard to understand why there are Palestinian "terrorists" at all. -sarcasm
As long as Israel acts as if it is blameless and refuses to change its ways, there will not be a resolution.

(478 posts)Israel killed more Palestinian civilians in 2014 than in any other year since the occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip began in 1967, a UN report has said.
The Guardian:
Israels activities in the Gaza Strip, West Bank and East Jerusalem resulted in the deaths of 2,314 Palestinians and 17,125 injuries, compared with 39 deaths and 3,964 injuries in 2013, according to the annual report (pdf) by the UN Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
The conflict in Gaza in July and August was largely responsible for the dramatic increase in fatalities. It claimed the lives of 2,220 Gazans, of whom 1,492 were civilians, 605 militants and 123 unverified.
More than 11,000 people were injured and about 500,000 Palestinians were internally displaced at the height of the conflict. About 100,000 remain so.
There was also a sharp rise in fatalities in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, where 58 Palestinians were killed and 6,028 injured the highest number of fatalities in incidents involving Israeli forces since 2007 and the highest number of injuries since 2005.
Most of the incidents took place in the second half of the year, following the abduction and murder of Mohammed Abu Khdeir, which led to daily riots and protests in East Jerusalem.
Khdeir, a 16-year-old Palestinian, was kidnapped and killed in July, following the abduction and murder of three Israeli teenagers the previous month.

It's all "disgusting" because Palestinian lives matter as much as Israeli lives. Time to face reality

(3,967 posts)You are talking about the battle with Gaza after Hamas intentionally fired hundreds of missiles at civilian targets and during which they fired thousands more from residential locations, schools and hospitals, and launched terrorist raids targeting civilians with tunnels into israeli communities, also emanting from residential areas. You can say that is cool or whatever, but it is perhaps relevant context.

I guess they can whine but it doesn't touch me at all. The got what they voted for. I sincerely wish their leaders agreed with you but it sure doesn't seem they even care about their own people's lives at all.

(26,060 posts)timing for you but hamas has claimed these terrorists as their own and praise them:
In an official statement on Twitter early on Thursday, Hamas praised the shooting as heroic and intimated that more attacks would follow over the month-long Muslim holiday of Ramadan, which started this week.
A Hamas media outlet shared a photo of a traditional Palestinian Ramadan treat being stuffed with a bullet with the caption Tel Aviv operation.

Here's some more for you to chew on from that article:
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon voiced outrage at Hamass celebration of the shooting, saying in a statement that he was shocked that the leaders of Hamas have chosen to welcome this attack and some have chosen to celebrate it.

(478 posts)In a wave of violence since October, the Israeli army has killed at least 206 Palestinians, including protesters, bystanders and alleged attackers, while 33 Israelis have been killed in stabbing and shooting incidents.
That's from the thread just above about Illegal Israeli homebuilding, then there's another one about the Israeli PM wanting to do Palestinian ethnic cleansing. You'd think that any Israeli would recoil in horror at the idea that "those other people" don't really count. Talk about disgusting...
This is a really amazing piece of propaganda (or Hamasbara).
"In a wave of violence since October, the Israeli army has killed at least 206 Palestinians" - Lie does not begin to describe this statement.
Here, this is better.
"In launching a wave of violence against Jews since October, Palestinians terrorists have killed 33 Jews and have gotten 206 of themselves killed."
You're welcome.

(478 posts)I notice the coexist - no one who believes in coexistence thinks one side is right and the other wrong.
Do you honestly think these terrorist acts occur in a vacuum? Are you honestly trying to tell me they are totally unprovoked? Do you think a PM proposing Palestinian ethnic cleansing doesn't arouse passions? It's funny you posting a propaganda piece about the other side's propaganda
Frederick Douglass summarized the same situation in another time:
Where justice is denied,
where poverty is enforced,
where ignorance prevails,
and where any one class is made to feel that society is an organized conspiracy to oppress, rob and degrade them,
neither persons nor property will be safe.

(11,841 posts)They all learned long ago that it was against their best interest to continue attacking Israel. Now there is peace between them all and has been for many years.
Maybe ONE DAY the "palestinians" will become cognizant of the REAL world, where Israel is on everyones map except theirs. When tat day comes, and they renounce terrorist groups as their "leaders", maybe THEN they will know the peace that the others know. Otherwise, tough shit, turn yourselves into Syria, the only other active opponent to Israel. Its turning out really well for them, isnt it?

(33,252 posts)is it some sort of gun control critique? an indictment of media complacency?
if there was a similar incident (in terms of people shot & killed) in Chicago, it would be national news. the steady drip drip of isolated 1 on 1 shootings by disenfranchised youth is not the same.

(50,237 posts)Don't you think Americans who die on a daily basis on American streets deserve the same coverage as an event in Israel? We ignore an ongoing slaughter that takes down a jumbo jet number of people per week, but drop everything for a tragic event in another country? I find it bizarre anyone would call my comment disgusting.
