Israeli authorities have approved building permits for 82 new homes in the illegal settlement of Ramat Shlomo, a neighbourhood near Shuafat in occupied East Jerusalem, an Israeli NGO has said.
"On Monday, June 6, the Jerusalem Local Planning and Building Committee approved two building permits for 82 housing units in Ramat Shlomo," Ir Amim, a group that opposes settlement construction, said in a statement on Tuesday.
The settlement, which already houses more than 15,000 Israeli Jews, lies in close proximity to the Palestinian neighbourhood of Shuafat.
The 82 units in two buildings are part of a larger scheme for expansion announced in 2010 to build an additional 1,600 new settler homes in the neighbourhood.

(53,521 posts)...but just blindly denouncing these terrorists as if they are cartoon villains who like killing for the sake of killing rather than members of an oppressed population lashing out in fury and what they see as invaders stealing their land is just apologizing for Israeli colonialism.

ALERTER'S COMMENTS
Blaming the victims of terrorism is despicable and way over the top - innocent Jews were shot simply because they were Israelis and excusing their attackers is reprehensible.

Explanation: Seems to be an opinion. One that pro-Israeli people do not like and one that may not be possible to discuss. Not sure how anything gets discussed in I/P though. Don't think hiding every post one side finds objectionable is an answer though.

(53,521 posts)The Mizrahi Jews who were there before Zionist settlement are a minuscule minority.
And none of what you said justifies Israel's blatant stealing of Palestinian land in the West Bank for Israeli settlements.

(3,051 posts)Seriously, East Jerusalem was a mixed neighborhood for thousands of years -- until a pogrom in 1929 wherein Arab troops killed or expelled the Jewish families who had lived there for literally millennia.
Israel does lots of questionable things, but lying about "stealing Palestinian land" is not productive.
Must Spain, er, excuse me, Al-Andalus, cede land back to the Arabs that was reconquered during the middle ages?
How about Vienna?

10 August 2015 A United Nations human rights committee has completed its annual evaluation of the situation affecting millions of people living in the Occupied Palestinian Territories and has cited Israel's policy of settlement expansion as a primary driver of the escalating violence in the area.
In a press release issued today to mark the end of its five-day fact-finding visit to Amman, Jordan, the UN Special Committee to investigate Israeli practices affecting the human rights of the Palestinian people and other Arabs of the occupied territories, said that a series of meetings with civil society groups and Palestinian officials had revealed that the root cause of the escalating violence in the Territories is the continuing policy of settlement expansion and the climate of impunity relating to the activities of the settlers.
Indeed, over the past weeks, tensions in the Territories between Israeli settlers and Palestinians have been further enflamed following a series of deadly incidents between the two groups. Most recently, in the village of Duma, an 18-month-old Palestinian baby died following the fire-bombing of the house by Israeli settlers. The father of the baby, who had sustained serious injuries in the attack, subsequently died on 8 August.
In addition to the violence, the Committee represented by Amrith Rohan Perera, Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the UN in New York; Ramlan bin Ibrahim, Permanent Representative of Malaysia to the UN in New York; and Aboubacar Sadikh Barry, Minister Counselor, Permanent Mission of Senegal to the UN in Geneva was also briefed extensively on what it described as increasing human rights violations on women and children through the repeated use of night raids and police dogs by Israeli authorities. The UN experts were told that many women were subjected to humiliating treatment in the presence of their families during these operations.

Israeli NGO announces approval of building permits for 82 new homes in illegal Jewish settlement near Shuafat area.
In a wave of violence since October, the Israeli army has killed at least 206 Palestinians, including protesters, bystanders and alleged attackers, while 33 Israelis have been killed in stabbing and shooting incidents.
So,, I guess if you owned some land and someone else decides to come and build a house on it, it's OK as long as there wasn't a house there previously?
Pointing out the truth about Israel's actions is not "hating Israel". The truth doesn't hate anything except lies...
