ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) Kroger union employees voted Wednesday to accept a new contract,
avoiding a strike. Nearly 3,000 union employees are covered in the agreement.
The new contract is for four years.
Around 1,000 union employees in the area took part in Wednesdays vote at the Berglund Center in Roanoke. The new contract will go into place as soon as both parties sign off on the new contract. The union vote to accept the contract was 426 to 366.
One employee described it as the best of the worst offers, but others say it's still not enough.

(45,251 posts)the face of Washington off the dollar they pay workers while they get rich from workers labor.
Divinely inspired or not, the Bible got it almost right:
1 Timothy 6:10King James Version (KJV)
For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
I say "almost" because I am not sure that people like the Koch brothers are pierced through with many sorrows. Also, at this point, they may be more about power and control than money. Also, there are evils that don't seem to be related to money. So, as I said, close.

(4,033 posts)Could you please give some indication of where things like this are occurring in the headline. My son works for Kroger and he hadn't mentioned anything about a new contract, vote, or possible strike. It took me a minute to find the dateline Roanoke. (Yeah, I know it is right there, but I started looking at the bottom where the link was and scanned backward. So, I'm crazy )
And I love to see unions making a comeback. He's a union worker and they have his back!
