ORLANDO, Fla. - The Orlando Police Department announced Friday that 'The Voice' star Christina Grimmie was shot at The Plaza Live, a concert venue on Bumby Street in Orlando.
Grimmie is listed in critical condition, police said. She was scheduled to perform Friday night, according to the Plaza's website.
OPD said Grimmie's brother tackled the shooter, who then committed suicide. Officials called Grimmie's brother a hero.
The Plaza's website says a band named Before You Exit was scheduled to perform Friday night, along with Grimmie.

(9 posts)Apparently, she passed. This is unverified.
I don't know how reliable The Inquisitr is, but here is a link to their story which claims that she has died:

(9 posts)It is relatively reliable, but picked up on the chatter far too fast.
Local news was also somewhat fooled, and a reputable magazine did run with rampant chatter of her passing, but that has since been fixed as Orange County PD confirms she remains in critical condition.

Her rep said in a statement, "It is with a heavy heart that we can confirm that Christina has passed and went home to be with the Lord. She was shot at her show in Orlando and, unfortunately, didn't survive the gun shot wounds. We ask at this time that you respect the privacy of her family and friends in their time of mourning. If you'd like to give back to Christina's family in her memory, please consider donating to the families GoFundMe page in their time of need."

(62,280 posts)They tend to wait until next of kin is contacted, yes even for the murderer, so as to give them a heads up.
But it is unusual how long it's taking. Killer could've dumped identifying info before committing the murder. I'm guessing it was a sick fan.

(6,241 posts)the bastard. He doesn't get his fame. She dies and is remembered by her family, friends, her fans. He dies in obscurity, forgotten by the world. He never gets fame. Maybe it'll stop other freaks from doing something to someone they're obsessed with.

I had a friend who did security for a movie studio and then private security for an A list actor. He said everyone on television as at least one crazed fan or two who could become a stalker and the more famous you are, the quantity of people sending disturbed and troubling letters every day increases exponentally.

(35,094 posts)But I don't know. Not saying they're the same plot, but:
The San Bernardino attack came days after the Planned Parenthood shooting.
There was an army recruiting station attacked just a day after George Tiller was assassinated.
And now this.
Attacks by Islamic terrorists here in the US aren't a common occurence, but they seem to happen after some high profile terrorist attack or assassination. It's almost like they're piggybacking on our own violence, a form of simultaneous terror, I think it at least merits investigation.
