The Latest: Trump: US stands with Orlando's LBGT community

Source: Associated Press

Donald Trump is opening his speech in the wake of the night club murders in Orlando with a moment of silence and prayers for the city's gay and lesbian community.

The presumptive Republican nominee also called again for a ban on Muslims entering the U.S. for an indeterminate time.

He says he will "suspend immigration from areas of the world where there is a proven history of terrorism" against the U.S. or its allies.

Trump adds, "We have no choice."

Fuck you Donald. Get this through your pea brain you sack of shit - the attacker was born in the United States so even if we weren't allowing people from "areas of the world with a proven history of terrorism" (outside the US, that is) it would not have done any goddamn fucking good.

Donald Trump said this: "It’s an assault on the ability of free people to live their lives, love who they want and express their identity.”

I think that this is just about the most pro-gay thing I've heard a Republican presidential candidate say. This speaks to the broader transformation in the society. I think that that's worthy of pointing out.

I don't personally think Trump cares one way or the other about homosexuality or homosexuals as such. He's agnostic with regard to many things. He's a sort of personification of capital.

To give the devil his due, (and I loath Trump as much as anyone on this board), I think he'd hire a gay or transgendered person in an instant if they were competent and would thusly make him money. My observation is that most 'phobes are often fearful and in denial of their own latent desires and Der Trumenfuherer does not have that particular issue. I could be wrong, and OF COURSE he's going to play to his base (all politicians do regardless of their place on the political spectrum or their beliefs)....

He might be an evil son of a bitch, but he is *NOT* dumb; he knows how to speak to and manipulate dumb people better than anyone in several generations but he is not dumb.

People underestimated Mussolini as a buffoon, too, right up until it was too late.

That said, what Trump is doing is reminiscent of the 1940s Japanese internment policies.

Washington Post story:

In one video, the elder Mateen expresses gratitude toward the Afghan Taliban while denouncing the Pakistani government.

“Our brothers in Waziristan, our warrior brothers in (the) Taliban movement and national Afghan Taliban are rising up,” he said. “Inshallah, the Durand Line issue will be solved soon.”

The shooter was upset because he found a transgender person in his bathroom.

----------------------

Joke is factual? Given the recent republican focus on bathrooms and their ignoring gun deaths, the republican mistakes have led many impaired individuals to take out their impairment upon the less favored. Hence: Orlando.
