Orlando shooter was reportedly a regular at Pulse and Had a Profile on Gay dating App
Source: Gawker
Early Sunday morning, Omar Mateen shot and killed 49 people at a gay nightclub in Orlando, perpetrating the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history. Mateen, his father explained the next day, had repeatedly been angered by the sight of two men kissing. But according to witnesses, Mateen was also a regular at the club and exchanged messages with at least one gay man on a gay dating app.

I also think that maybe he thought of using the app and going to Pulse to murder gay people individually, like a mission oriented serial killer.
I guess another mass killer, James Holmes, also threw around the idea of being a serial killer before settling on killing as many people as possible in a single event.

(2,178 posts)Perhaps he was creating a persona so as to not look out of place, to case the club and plan his movements.

(10,623 posts)just like ISIS has been asking its "soldiers" to do. I do wonder if he went there specifically to kill some people that he had been having gay sex with. A way to cover some of his tracks, but why would he care if he was going to die in the attack?
Rachel Maddow appropriately called this "a war." The US has indeed been bombing the crap out of areas in Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq, etc., and this is one way they can strike back at us. Would they quit if we withdrew from that region? Likely not in my opinion. They have some really convoluted ideas about Islam and seem to want everyone to submit. That ain't gonna happen, so the next best thing is to just terrorize us.
Sorry, just kinda rambling.

(29,503 posts)It happens. I recall going to gay clubs as a youngster, and some of the hottest guys would strike out, repeatedly.
A possible factor amongst others perhaps?

In fact, there should be stories planted in the media about all of these mass shooters, casting them as the same (and worse) as those they hate so much.

(25,380 posts)He should also be portrayed as an alcohol user, which witnesses say he was.
The idea is to deny him the status of martyr and hero to any who would admire and emulate his actions.
