Orlando Shooter’s Wife Reportedly Knew Of His Plans For Attack

Source: Huffington Post

The wife of Orlando gunman Omar Mateen said she knew her husband was planning an attack, multiple outlets reported Tuesday, citing anonymous law enforcement officials. She may now face charges.

Noor Salman Mateen, the gunman’s second wife, told the FBI that she was aware of his plan for a mass shooting at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida, but didn’t notify authorities, according to local TV station WFTV. She said that she tried to discourage her husband from carrying out the attack, NBC News reported.

Authorities are considering criminal charges against Noor Mateen, according to ABC News.

Omar Mateen killed 49 people and injured another 53 at the nightclub early Sunday morning. He died in a shootout with police.

Maybe you can be on the jury, get a chance to pepper spray her.

Some people just don't get enough of other people's misery.

because we must have a scapegoat!

But not the NRA or the politicians they own, or any part of the security state (the agencies we "traded" our freedoms for so we'd be safe from harm.)

Hurray that someone who will be easily villified and punished has been found.

She should not be the target of any criminal process simply because she did not turn him in.

Plus, spousal privilege applies in any case.

i don't think so. Spousal privileged or not she should have spoken out to prevent 49 murders.

I'm talking wrong or right here. Spousal privilege may protect her from arrest, but it won't protect her from my outrage.

It only prevents someone from being forced to testify against their spouse. It does not mean that they are free to not report it if they know that the person is going to a commit a crime. Same with attorney-client privilege and doctor-patient privilege. If the other party learns that the person is going to commit a new crime, they're not only permitted to break that privilege: they're legally required to.

" Two further scenarios apply to defeat the attachment of the spousal communications privilege: if the confidential communication was made in order to plan or commit crime or fraud, or if a defendant-spouse wishes, in a criminal trial, to testify in their own defense, about a confidential marital communication. In these five cases, a court will not allow either spouse to assert the privilege to block the testimony."
In other words if she knew then she should have contacted law enforcement.
Mind you thats only "if" she knew but as far as I am concerned its just a rumor until its actually confirmed.

I think maybe the FBI should also investigate any unsolved anti-gay hate crimes in the area.
