TRUMP: 'We have to maybe check, respectfully, the mosques'
Source: Business Insider
Donald Trump called for the surveillance of mosques in light of the terrorist attack in Orlando, saying that the US hasn't been "smart" and "vigilant."
During a rally on Wednesday, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee again cautioned against letting immigrants into the country without proper screening.
Trump said:
In speaking to numerous governors over the last few days, really, a great group of people, and in speaking to them, they really are beside themselves. Because they say "people are being put in our states" and they have absolutely nothing to say about it. They don't know who they are, where they are, they don't know where they're being placed. And even from the standpoint of law enforcement, that's a bad thing.
He then said that police aren't doing enough to monitor communities.

(290 posts)Sorry chump, but in this country we have rights and freedoms, and you can't just march into a place and search it "because those scary brown Muslim people worship here." You have to have probable cause to suspect that illegal activity is taking place.
This clown's candidacy gets more surreal by the day. Being an American living abroad is just really uncomfortable right now.

(66,286 posts)For the fact that the vast majority of us are horrified by this orange-skinned, brain-dead fuck-monkey?
That his most vocal and unshakeable supporters are undereducated societal fringe players?
That we have a genuinely gifted, qualified, intelligent, and hard-working candidate for President not named Donald Trump?
Or are all non-Americans rolling their eyes at those freaks between the oceans...

(290 posts)My experience is anecdotal, of course, but for what it's worth, the general attitude seems to be "How on earth has he made it this far?" and "Do you really think he could win?" Overall, they seem to feel the way most of us do: flabbergasted and unsure just how we got to this point.
And yeah, when I explain that most Americans are aghast at the fact that a major political party nominated him, most Canadians are sympathetic, if anything. Some of them will point out that the polls indicate Trump has a fair bit of support, until I explain that polls this far out from the general election are pretty much worthless.
Now if Trump actually goes on to win in November, I think the sympathy might evaporate pretty quickly. At that point, I think most of what I'll hear will be "First W, now this?"

(290 posts)But from what I gather, as awful as Harper was, Trump is orders of magnitude worse. I don't really follow the Canadian political scene too closely, partially since I'm just naturally more interested in things back home and partially because I've got one more year to go until I can try for citizenship and be able to vote.
Who else would you say are the Canuck Crazies, out of curiosity?

(290 posts)I think you're right. Most Americans will either shrug because it doesn't affect them or think to themselves "Hey, not a bad idea."
Trump truly is the lowest common denominator candidate.

And yet not one governor mentioned specifically by state or name. I hope the media asks him specifically which governors have offered their support on this idiocy.

And you know what? There ain't nothing you can do about it.

(15,805 posts)In November, Trump said, he would have 'Absolutely no choice' but to close mosques. Then he added banning Muslims from entering the US, now he wants to put mosques under federal surveillance. What's next... the Trump version of a Kristallnacht, concentration camps???

(50,528 posts)If you're counting attacks on abortion clinics as terrorism like I do, Christians are responsible for many more attacks than Muslims. If you begin on a slippery slope of checking brown people because they're brown, eventually everyone must be under surveillance. That would be bad.
