Hundreds Plan to Protest Sunday Against Sacramento Pastor Who Praised Orlando Massacre

Source: KTLA

More than 1,000 people plan to protest Sunday outside a Sacramento Baptist church where a pastor praised the Orlando, Fla., killings in a sermon.

The protest is being organized through Facebook and is calling on people in Sacramento to gather outside the Verity Baptist Church on Sunday morning to decry the pastor’s praise of the massacre at the Pulse gay nightclub. So far, more than 1,000 people said they plan to attend the demonstration.

“It disgusts me that this immoral sacrilegious individual is spewing hatred and ignorance, and is condoning murder to his churchgoers who may not be old enough to see what true religion is instead of the brainwashing he is doing,” the statement read on the Facebook event page.

... in a small rural town in the mid-west. We had one of each kind of denomination. But I don't remember Baptist's being so bitterly right wing. What's got into the Baptist Church? Do they have two flavors, such as Southern and Regular? I'm glad to hear that a hardy protest will be occurring to show the public's disdain for this supposed "Man of God".

Purged the various "liberal" elements from leadership positions and installing their hard-line literalists in their place.

My uncle was a Baptist minister who adhered to SBC tenets. He was so hateful and racist he began my evaluation of the place of religion in my life. I credit him for my realization that religion was a poison I did not need to accept.

An ancestor of ours, Charles Crow, was responsible for the formation of the Alabama Baptist Convention, and students of his were responsible for the formation of the Southern Baptist Convention. Charles Crow was a racist slave owner. The church that ordained him, the Bush River Baptist Church in Newberry, South Carolina, decided that the elders of the church should not own slaves. Charles Crow left that church, moved his household, wife, children and slaves, to Alabama and founded Ocmulgee Baptist Church and a number of others in central Alabama. He ended owning a large number of slaves. http://www.angelfire.com/al2/crowe/sketches.html

I was raised Southern Baptist, and I recall in the early 60s how the preachers -- and especially the occasional evangelists -- would carry on about how the USA was headed down the road to ruin just as the mighty civilizations of Rome and Babylon, mainly because they were spitting mad about the Supreme Court decision about school prayer. They even had large-scale prints showing the timelines of the rise and fall of past empires, and mapped the founding of the USA to them.

It was the late 70s when the thumpers managed to purge the "liberal" leadership of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary when the SBC took a hard right turn. And they're still driving that bus.

While most of it is genealogy and family history, the part about his church activities is revealing.

For instance, Crow started the Ocmulgee Baptist Church, then left one of his followers in charge, moved away and started one or two other Baptist Churches in that part of Alabama. In his old age, he returned to Ocmulgee and took control again.

While Crow was gone, the other preacher allowed one of the slaves to preach to slaves whose owners would not allow them to go to church. When Crow returned, he berated both the slave and the preacher who allowed that liberty. Considering that the slaves whose owners would not allow them to go to church had no other way to learn about Christianity, in my mind this was a very un-Christian thing to do. But then this was a guy who left the state rather than follow the tenets of the sect that had ordained him.

Knowing that history, then having my uncle the preacher tell the most abhorrent racist "jokes" I've ever heard it's no wonder I am no longer a follower of any religion.

This is a pretty good explanation: http://www.patheos.com/blogs/johnshore/2013/11/the-foul-toxicity-of-the-8-million-strong-independent-fundamental-baptists-headed-by-bob-jones-university/

It also helps to know that this particular guy was mentored by this guy: http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/news/tempe-pastor-hails-orlando-massacre-for-leaving-50-less-pedophiles-in-this-world-video-8372346 and that they're both special even by IFB standards.

Also helpful to know that the qualifications to be an IFB pastor are a dick and a tie, and technically you don't need the tie. Education, training? Nope.

In the rant that I heard from Jiminez responding to the Orlando night club shootings, he expressed satisfaction that 50 pedophiles were killed. His statement would indicate that he thinks pedophilia and homosexuality are the same thing.

How ignorant can you get? And how does an idiot like him become a pastor, supposedly preaching Christ's teachings?

If we're going to engage in Jiminez's brand of logic, maybe we should condemn pastors, given the multiple reports of pastors engaging in pedophilia. I'd be willing to bet that the percentage of pedophiliac pastors is higher than the percentage of pedophiliac gays.
