Check your Ticketmaster account, free tickets might be waiting for you

(MEDIA GENERAL) — Last month, Ticketmaster settled a $400 million class-action lawsuit over “deceptive” descriptions of their service fees. If you purchased tickets from Ticketmaster between 1999 and 2013 you should log into your account and click “Active Vouchers.” Considering the suit affects over 50 million people, there’s probably a voucher (or two!) for a free show waiting for you.

Of course there’s always a catch and unfortunately you won’t be able to use those vouchers for just any show. Vouchers are only valid for events at Live Nation-operated venues and eligible events will be chosen at “Live Nation’s sole discretion.” Once the list of events is finalized they will be posted here. Surely there will be something on the list that interests you or at least makes an great gift for that friend of yours who’s always been into polka music.

Hey, free is free right?

Cool. I've got 3 pairs of tickets coming, plus several discounts.

Probably won't get Springsteen or Santana, but who knows?

Get some old 90's bands like the Spin Doctors or Chumbawamba and have them do a tour for all these "free" shows. It'll be the same kind of shows you get for free at some of these festivals that only a handful of their fans would have paid for anyways. Still might be a fun date night I guess, where they'll count on us paying parking and for food/beverage so who knows.

I just can't seem to get a list of events they would qualify for. I'll keep trying.

Thank you for posting this! Its been years since I've bought any tickets, so I was very surprised to find vouchers, let alone remember my account information.

Vouchers are on a first come, first served basis.

The list of qualifying events will only be periodically updated.

Venues included are limited to LiveNation owned/operated venues.

Vouchers expire in 2020 (just shy of four years...)

If more than $10.5 million in vouchers are redeemed in the first twelve months, a clause is triggered which allows TM to only release 100 tickets total to a qualifying event.

All of these stipulations in a four year period in which most are probably shut out, not interested or vouchers expire before used. All by design.

Nice 'settlement' we have here...

It concerned a class action about Ticketmaster ripping me off on shipping costs. It appears all I get is a discount on future shipping. I didn't know I could get discounts on some ticket, but now that I reread it I see you're right:

Dear Class Member,

You are receiving this email because you are a Class Member in the Schlesinger v. Ticketmaster Class Action Settlement.

The settlement has been finally approved and all appeals have been resolved. To the extent you are eligible to receive them, your Discount, UPS Discount, and Ticket Codes will be placed in your Ticketmaster.com account and will be available for your use starting on or around June 18, 2016. An active link to access your Ticketmaster account where your codes will reside is provided below:

*snip*

Discount Codes may be redeemed only by you and are non-transferable.
Up to two Discount Codes can be used per transaction.
Each Discount Code is redeemable on the Ticketmaster website (www.ticketmaster.com or concerts.livenation.com). Please note they also are available for redemption on the mobile website (m.ticketmaster.com and www1.ticketmaster.com) but not on mobile apps (iOS or Android).
For any transactions where you elect to use a Discount Code, you will be asked to input that Discount Code on the Billing Page during the checkout stage of your transaction. For ease of use, we recommend that you cut and paste the Discount Code(s) you intend to use in your browser or write them down as you start the purchase transaction so that they will be readily accessible to you at checkout.
Each Discount Code may be used only one time. Once used, it will be extinguished and will disappear from the list of Active Vouchers within your account.
The Discount Codes are subject to the conditions set forth in the Settlement Agreement and Release found on http://www.ticketfeelitigation.com/court.
Discount Codes must be used on or before June 18, 2020 or they will be extinguished.

Its insurer pays most of the settlement (SOP at that level), they set the terms of recompense and they keep operating as they like.

Sweet.

The settlement for 'deceptive' descriptions to the tune of $400 million is the ability to make it an advertisement by offering small amount 'vouchers'. Really it's a sham, not a settlement......They should be forced to fork over real hard cash without any conditions.
