Trump, amid criticism, walks back suggestion that armed clubgoers could have prevented Orlando
Source: Washington Post
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on Monday walked back his repeated assertion that the mass shooting at an LGBT Orlando nightclub earlier this month could have been prevented if more people had been carrying firearms.
The claim, which Trump has made on the campaign trail and in television interviews, has been heavily criticized by gun safety advocates and drew a striking rebuke from the National Rifle Association on Sunday.
When I said that if, within the Orlando club, you had some people with guns, I was obviously talking about additional guards or employees, Trump tweeted Monday morning, seeking to clarify and qualify his earlier comments.

Trumps attempts to soften his claims come after the executive director of the NRAs lobbying arm disavowed the suggestion that armed clubgoers would have guaranteed safety at Pulse nightclub.

Amazing that a candidate has to walk back their pro-gun comments because they are even too extreme for the NRA.

(9,895 posts)He should be mocked everywhere and absolutely grilled by any journalist with a shred of integrity.
If I were a reporter - or hell, even if I were merely a mouthpiece for some rag - I would follow him around and mock him daily.
Donald, will you share with us a few of those "all the best words" that you have said you have?
(I am sorry Donnie, "loser", "sad", "pathetic" and "corrupt" and not YOUR words, they are everyone's and they also seem to be a bit more than a Freudian slip with you...more like a cry for help.)
Donald, can you explain why you said your foreign policy has its genesis in "what you read on the internet" and that you have advisors in your "great brain" that you talk with "yourself mainly" to gain insight?
(I NEVER thought I would live to see a candidate out Palin or out Bachmann the field...yet here is the vulgar yam in a toupee to prove me wrong....wonders never cease!)

he accuses the questioner of bias & claims the high ground. reporters are supposed to be impartial, right? it puts them on their heels.

(581 posts)will stop mass killings. Just what is the breaking point of having armed citizens and one lone mass killers that does a surprise attack? And they think gun free zones are the reason for mass attacks. One NRA members this weekend said he would not support guns being allowed into any business that serves liquor or beer, unlike what the NRA says.
Until the voters target those NAY senators and house members for defeat will any measure pass.

(2,657 posts)You were OBVIOUSLY spewing out of your ass, again, a half-baked, idiotic position designed to appeal to your putrid "base" and you went too far even for the NRA. Own it asshat instead of, as per usual, attempting to weasel out of it.
