Activists support political prisoners at Prague Castle

Activists from the Czech Kaputin group held a silent protest remembering several political prisoners and victims of unclarified murders, such as Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaya and Russian opposition politician Boris Nemtsov, at Prague Castle yesterday. At various places of the Prague Castle compound, the group displayed photos and stories of imprisoned Ukrainian film maker Oleh Sentsov, Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo and Syrian doctor Muhammad Waseem Moaz who was killed in Aleppo.
In a press release, the group said some Czech politicians, including top constitutional officials, have recently been making friends with representatives of authoritarian regimes much more than would be appropriate for a country that experienced the atrocities of Nazism and communism in the 20th century.
The Prague Castle police repeatedly asked the group to leave the premises, but the activists did not do so. The police argued that the activists disturbed the dignity of the place. The historical Prague Castle is the presidential seat and it is visited by many tourists.
"I showed them an article of the constitution on the freedom of speech and the set of rules for visitors of the Prague Castle and asked them to tell me what we were violating," one of the activists told CTK.
