Initiative to Legalize Recreational Use of Pot in California Qualifies for November Ballot

Source: KTLA.com

An initiative that would legalize the recreational use of marijuana in California officially took its place on the Nov. 8 ballot on Tuesday as its campaign took a commanding lead in fundraising to battle the measure’s opponents.

The Secretary of State’s Office certified that a random sample showed sufficient signatures among the 600,000 turned in to qualify the measure. The initiative is backed by a coalition that includes former Facebook President Sean Parker and Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom.

“Today marks a fresh start for California as we prepare to replace the costly, harmful and ineffective system of prohibition with a safe, legal and responsible adult-use marijuana system that gets it right and completely pays for itself,” said Jason Kinney, a spokesman for California’s Adult Use of Marijuana Act.

I actually have smoked mj, many many years ago.

I did get high, and I sure enjoyed it.

I'm really not looking for that experience now.

16. The medicinal users I know tell me what's available now is stronger than the 80's strains.

So much more potent that it's almost an immediate couch lock for at least a couple hours. However, the higher potency also means one doesn't need as much to make edibles.

Or so I've been told.
(Spouse has a medical card for fibro and severe nerve damage in the back; a topical salve and the occasional couple bites of laced caramel corn every day work better than the opioids his pain doctor was giving him to make it through the day.)

Take a look at

This is a great insight on drugs, etc., but really pot is so much less dangerous than other drugs.

Great for the people who put this choice on the ballot!

"Chasing The Scream" is a wonderful book. Well, well worth the price...

Great!!

I was just in Eugene, OR at the dispensary, Flowr Of Lyfe, and they are doing something different and amazing there for sure. Ken Kesey said," You're Either On The Bus Or Off The Bus". Well, you're either on the Cann-a-Bus or off the Cann-a-Bus lol. It's a comin' in a big way so hop on board.

7. Does this Initiative limit home-growing?

That is key, IMO.

Cannabis without freedom (to grow your own) is immoral.

I'll probably continue to keep my medical recommendation current. I have 4 in veg and 4 in flower most of the time.

9. Actually, linked article says 6 plants...

..."individuals" get up to six plants.

So, if more than one 21+ y.o. "individual" is in same abode, do they each get 6?

Minor detail, but open for question, IMO.

BTW, I'm for (regulated) legalization of all drugs, so this "how many plants" thing is just a point of detail/curiosity on my part.

...to combine their allotments and grow together in one location.

That would be an important freedom.

I am wary of Big Corp $$$ moving-in and sewing up the entire market
by limiting (economical) home-growing.

Hope that doesn't happen.

mine carries a heavy "tax" of about $1500 to grow (indoors only) 6 plants. doesn't make it worth it to grow
