"Zephyr is helping to show Democrats across the nation how to take back the House," Taylor continued, "by running on big ideas and challenging corporate power in a way that is popular with Democrats, Independents, and Republicans."

(3,283 posts)Time to start collecting downticket victories.
Doesn't matter if they're Hillary or Bernie surrogates, so long as they're progressive and ready to work. Elect Democrats who will fight.

(12,471 posts)This is my congressional district, and we really want someone to replace the former Liberal Progressive, Maurice Hinchey who retired a few years back, to be replaced with a milquetoast RepubliCON, who is leaving to spend more time with his family.
Zephyr Teachout beat all odds when she garnered 35% of the vote in her primary against Andrew Cuomo for governor.
Now she beat a newcomer, and someone who has constantly been having meetings with the DLC.
Teachout is a Berniecrat, endorsed by Sanders, who helped raise funds for her.
I hope that this proves that we must run more progressive and liberal candidates if we are to retake the Congress. We need to bring this country further to the left where it belongs, and Zephyr is just the one to start things going in this direction.
When we win this election in the fall, it will be proof that those who backed her, as well as Sanders, and both of their ideals, did not do so in vein. We need about 400 more Zephyr Teachouts, if you ask me. Just as we need to get rid of the middle of the road, third way so called Democrats.

(1,178 posts)Her Republican opponent, John Faso, is the beneficiary of a large amount of Wall Street hedge fund money:
"By June 2016, a Super PAC called New York Wins, had raised over $1 million, including $650,000 from hedge fund manager Robert Mercer, to support Faso and defeat his well funded Republican primary opponent, moderate Andrew Heaney."

Seriously, this is one helluva great candidate.
And I love her name.
