Trump Finally Weighs In On SCOTUS Abortion Ruling With Some Bad Math
Source: Talking Points Memo
After several days of silence regarding the Supreme Court's ruling against a Texas anti-abortion law, Donald Trump on Thursday finally weighed in on the decision and claimed that such a ruling would not occur if he were to appoint the next Supreme Court justice.
"Now if we had Scalia was living or if Scalia was replaced by me, you wouldnt have had that. Okay? It wouldve been the opposite," Trump told conservative radio host Mike Gallagher.
To be clear, the Supreme Court voted 5-3 against the Texas law, and a ninth justice would not have been enough to change the court's opinion.
In the case, the Supreme Court struck down Texas provisions that required abortion clinics to have admitting privileges to nearby hospitals and mandated that the clinics meet the same standards as surgical centers.

"You wont even have to question. You wouldnt even have to bother going to court. Youre going to know the answers," he said.
Gallagher then asked Trump if the court would issue a majority opinion like the one issued in the Texas abortion law case if Trump were elected president.
"No," Trump replied. "You wouldn't see that."
He then goes off on Robert saying he's a "very, very sad situation" because of the ACA ruling. WTF. Does he think he can just fire the justices? The only think he could do would be to stack SCOTUS with his justices. But to do that he'd need congress to change the size of SCOTUS.

in the end, i guess it's not what he thinks that matters, it's what he can convince voters to think
as part of the "reality-based community" we are constrained in our thinking, whereas DJT is constructing his own reality for us to analyze later, as with W's bunch
maybe he's floating these nuggets as trial balloons to see just how stupid the electorate is

(43,115 posts)I think it's Donald saying he will strong arm Supreme Court Justices into
ruling how he likes
Calling them up and saying do this, do that
That's what narcissists do, make a lot of noise, rush in, tell everybody
what to do to suit them, take what they want, and threaten to do it again

Mr. Yam: "Let's see, I'd definitely fire the Obama justices, what are their names again? Scoochy? McGraw? Wait, I can do that, right?"
and another opportunity for all of us

(518 posts)Even with Scalia alive and voting his usual way, the Supreme Court vote would have been 5-4, instead of 5-3, still a win for the pro-choice side.
And the fact that Donald Trump, the man who tells us he's got such a good brain, cannot figure out this simple arithmetic may help explain his string of bankruptcies and his inability to follow the threads of simple logic (e.g., a gunman born in NY is not an immigrant, would not have been kept out by anti-immigrant policies).
A President who makes such obvious mistakes is going to make us the laughing stock of the world; he's not going to command respect from other nations nor from Congress nor from our troops. But he may spread worry that someone who makes such simplistic errors could stumble us into a war (yes, it's happened before), or a brutal economic meltdown (ditto).
