Pope Says Attacks Shows 'World Is At War', Religion Not To Blame
Source: Reuters
Pope Francis said on Wednesday that a string of recent attacks, including the murder of a priest in France, was proof that the "world is at war".
However, speaking to reporters aboard a plane taking him to Poland, the pope said he was not talking about a war of religion, but rather one of domination of peoples and economic interests.
"The word that is being repeated often is insecurity, but the real word is war," he said in brief comments to reporters while flying to southern Poland for a five-day visit.
"Let's recognize it. The world is in a state of war in bits and pieces," he said, adding that the attacks could be seen as another world war, specifically mentioning World War One and Two.

" I give you my revised list of the two commandments"
1. "Thou shalt always be honest and faithful, to the provider of thy nookie.
2. "Thou shalt try real hard not to kill anyone, unless of course, they pray to a different invisible man from the one you pray to."

(6,241 posts)What I care about is the treatment of people that don't believe exactly as they do. Beheadings are very common. Until they stop that crap, their State has no legitimacy. And they deserve no respect, and they don't get a seat at the table.
You want to know a radical muslim's views about multiculturalism? See how much they practice it in areas they control.

(36,133 posts)He finally uses the word "war" when it directly hits his clergy. He might be right that wars are not about religion. But.
He also knows full well that clergy who conveniently do and say little to stop capitalist competitors for "domination and economic interests" allow religious beliefs to convince others to fight those capitalist battles under cover of "defending the faith."

(36,133 posts)There are plenty of justifiers in religions of East and West to share in the guilt of these wars, even as they don't speak out against who is running them.

Pope Francis Says Global Conflicts Are 'Piecemeal' Third World War
Source: NBC
REDIPUGLIA, Italy - Pope Francis said on Saturday the spate of conflicts around the globe today were effectively a "piecemeal" Third World War, condemning the arms trade and "plotters of terrorism" sowing death and destruction. "Humanity needs to weep and this is the time to weep," Francis said in the homily of a Mass during a visit to Italy's largest war memorial, a large, Fascist-era monument where more than 100,000 soldiers who died in World War One are buried.
The pope began his brief visit to northern Italy by first praying in a nearby, separate cemetery for some 15,000 soldiers from five nations of the Austro-Hungarian empire which were on the losing side of the Great War that broke out 100 years ago. "War is madness," he said in his homily. "Even today, after the second failure of another world war, perhaps one can speak of a third war, one fought piecemeal, with crimes, massacres, destruction," he said. Francis has made repeated appeals for an end to conflicts in Ukraine, Iraq, Syria, Gaza and parts of Africa.

(1,737 posts)There are not large industrialized nations going after each other.
The casualty rate in the current 'world war' is tiny by comparison.
That said.....there is an ideological conflict occurring today that could spiral out of control.

Let's face it: most wars have been justified by religion, regardless of the true motivation.
