Florida has identified 10 more Zika cases; calls in feds for help
Source: Reuters
The state of Florida has identified 10 more cases of Zika virus caused by local mosquitoes and has asked the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to send in experts to help with its investigation of the outbreak.
The state now has 14 cases of Zika caused by locally transmitted mosquitoes, according to a statement issued on Monday by Florida Governor Rick Scott.
Scott said the state has called on the CDC to activate a CDC Emergency Response Team (CERT) to assist the Florida Department of Health and other partners in their investigation, sample collection and mosquito control efforts.

Reuters was first to report that as of last Friday, Florida had not activated a CERT team to help with its investigation, raising concerns from infectious disease experts that the state was not taking every step it could to contain the spread of Zika in the continental United States.

(29,205 posts)about the first case in Florida and how Florida decided NOT to call in the CDC.
There were many comments from conservatives that Florida has a lot more experience with mosquitoes and the feds would just get in the way and blah, blah, blah.
So now there are 10 cases... and Scott calls in the CDC. I wonder if those same conservatives have a new explanation?

(7,769 posts)The President put in a request for funding the Zika fight way before any cases in the US were homegrown.
Republicans knowingly looked the other way and skipped town.

(35,309 posts)But those who don't will pay a penalty. Okay, it's not really a penalty, it was a penalty just for purposes of transparency and truth telling in order to get the bill passed. Now that it's law, we don't need transparency and truth telling so it's a tax increase on those who can't afford insurance. (Otherwise the Congress and the President would have failed to uphold the Constitution--perhaps they need a pocket Constitution so they can look up their granted taxation and tariff authority?)
Those who don't have insurance will no longer have a tax deduction.
If they don't file taxes because they're not in the country legally, oh, well. They don't need insurance and they don't get the "tax penalty".
