Trump praises Ryan's primary challenger
Source: CNN
Donald Trump on Monday offered very public praise for a political candidate vying to unseat one of the top Republicans in Washington -- House Speaker Paul Ryan.
Trump, who is facing an onslaught of criticism from Ryan and other top Republicans for his comments about the Muslim family of a deceased US soldier, thanked Ryan's Republican primary challenger, Paul Nehlen, on Twitter Monday for his "kind words."
"Thanks to @pnehlen for your kinds words, very much appreciated," the Republican presidential nominee tweeted, in what amounts to an extraordinary show of discord between two of the most prominent faces of the Republican Party.

It's as if the old proverb, "may you live in interesting times" has come home to roost on the GOPs doorstep!

(4,311 posts)He doesn't seem to realise that if the entire Republican establishment turns against him, he cannot win the election. He's practically BEGGING Ryan to withdraw his endorsement.
Although I think Paul Ryan wants those Supreme Court nominees and is willing to sell his soul to get them.

Fallen Muslim soldier's family fires back at Trump
Trump made remarks about Ghazala Khan, who stood silently by her husband as he gave an impassioned speech about their son, Capt. Humayun Khan, who was killed by a car bomb in Iraq in 2004 and was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Time

Donald Trump, who is planning a visit to Wisconsin this week, continued sparring Monday with the parents of a fallen U.S. soldier, fanning one of the fiercest controversies of his hot-button presidential campaign.
The Trump campaign said it has made tentative plans to visit Green Bay on Friday, less than two weeks after running mate Mike Pence stumped in Waukesha.
A Trump visit would send a signal the GOP nominee is serious about contesting Wisconsin, a state where he lost the Republican primary and has consistently trailed Democrat Hillary Clinton in the polls.
Trump has lost ground to Clinton in new national surveys after last weeks Democratic convention. In one new CNN national poll, taken Friday through Sunday, Clinton leads Trump by nine points, 52% to 43%.

Ryan issued a statement Sunday that did not mention Trump or criticize him explicitly, but said:......................

(55,334 posts)As much as I disapprove of just about every policy he comes up with, he at least tries to comport himself in his office with dignity & detachment. And yes, the bar has been set pretty low by past Republican speakers and the rest of his party in general. But even at that, he appears studious and mature most of the time he's outside the gym's photo studio.
To Donald Trump, this only smells like weakness. So yes, Trump is desperately trying to make Ryan his bitch. Trump finds all displays of professionalism offensive. It would be a pleasure to watch if I didn't fear that there were lasting implications for the American political character of the Republican party embracing such a repugnant and mentally disturbed man as their standard bearer.
