Trump floats Ivanka for Cabinet, prompting Clinton jab

Source: CNN

(CNN)Hillary Clinton jabbed Donald Trump on Twitter after the GOP nominee answered a question about potential female cabinet members by naming his daughter, Ivanka, as a "popular" candidate. Winking at a Mitt Romney gaffe from his 2012 presidential bid, Clinton wrote Thursday: "We know a guy with a binder, @realDonaldTrump. (He might not take your calls, though.)"

The Democratic nominee was referencing Romney's remarks during a 2012 presidential debate about gender equality, when he said he'd reviewed "binders full of women" for positions in his administration as governor of Massachusetts. Clinton was responding comments Trump made in an interview with "First Coast News" in Florida, when he was asked to list possible female candidates for cabinet positions if he were elected president. Trump responded during the interview by naming his daughter, Ivanka and declining to identify any other women who could be considered for roles.

"I want to know just as a female, who you would actually put into office as one of the first females in your cabinet?" asked Angelia Savage, a reporter with "First Coast News."

"Well there are so many different ones to choose, I can tell you everybody would say -- 'Put Ivanka in! Put Ivanka in!' You know that, right?" Trump said.

Consider deleting. It's a tasteless line crossed there, IMO.

Probably because he looks at her and sees his youthful face in a female ("the best&quot body. From his perspective--the ideal woman.

What earthly cabinet post could Ivanka fill? Was this supposed to be a joke? (I can't tell any more.) Is this entire campaign just a big joke?

Am I living in a (bad) dream? A sitcom? A celebrity roast?

Honestly, we have gone beyond unusual politics here. We are in the realm of Dada / Surrealist performance art.

Good a place as any.

Is it possible that his children are playing him? "What a great idea, Daddy. You'll win easily. Just be yourself. People LOVE you!" Knowing he will show the world how mentally incompetent he is, sue to have him declared so, then take over his business.

Just a wild thought.

already down 15% fro,m last year & they're falling. Trump's base couldn't afford one of is overpriced ties, much less an apartment or hotel room. I'll bet his "brand" really takes a hit after he goes down in flames in November--or sooner. I'd so love to see that vile gasbag crash and burn.

The spotlight isn't kind. Jr.'s been doing business in Russia, doing what? Ivanka's shoe company is being sued for stealing designs from a competitor, and that isn't something she needed the whole world to know. Etc.

Not to attribute only or primarily venal motives to them by speaking to this particular aspect, but future inheritances may also have something to do with their current closeness and supportiveness. Trump's reportedly had relatively little to do with raising any of them, though the oldest three were around and he saw them, and relationships have to be very shallow, at least from his side because of his emotional limitations.

Trump has apparently given the three oldest around $150 million or so, but one can't buy many $30 million paintings with that. Very notably, though, one daughter has only $1 million or less. He saw her only a couple weeks a year because she was raised in California. This has to be a strong indicator to all of them of his capriciousness and how important it would be to have a good relationship with him as far as future gifts or inheritances go. He's 70 now.
