Source: CNN

Transport routes in other British cities have come to a standstill, with demonstrators chaining themselves together in Birmingham and Nottingham. More protests are planned in Manchester later today.

(3,660 posts)I'm sure there's plenty of racism, but BLM at least in its origin had a specific mission about the casual killings of minorities, not just being a more ornery version of the NAACP.

(58,724 posts)There have maybe been about dozen people (of any race) killed by law enforcement in the UK over the last ten years.
By contrast, in the US, the number is about one thousand every year.

(12,322 posts)Heathrow is a cluster F*** whenever I'm there, so it's hard to believe travelers would pay attention to yet one more obstacle.
I would have picked a place more conducive to getting out my message. Besides, airport security DOES NOT like to play.

(28,782 posts)I never had that much respect for BLM, while respecting the cause per se.
But these past two weeks really clinches it.
I truly think MLK Jr would be turning in his grave.

(3,261 posts)"I must make two honest confessions to you, my Christian and Jewish brothers. First, I must confess that over the past few years I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season." Shallow understanding from people of good will is more frustrating than absolute misunderstanding from people of ill will. Lukewarm acceptance is much more bewildering than outright rejection." - Martin Luther King, Jr., "Letter from a Birmingham Jail"

I dunno I think BLM is being strung by a few to disrupt to lose support rather than gain it.
