Glasgow-born photographer who watched his friend Robert Kennedy gunned down in the 1968 US presidential campaign fears Donald Trump's rhetoric could lead to more politically-motivated shootings.
Harry Benson, whose pictures of a dying Bobby Kennedy are among the most memorable images of the last century, said the current Republican candidate may have put Democrat lives at risk.
Trump said second amendment people could find a way to stop Hillary Clinton introducing tougher gun laws, adding: That will be a horrible day.
Benson, who has covered US presidential campaigns for more than 50 years, said he has never seen a campaign as crazy as Trump versus Clinton. . .

I remember them all, as a Boomer. I can't believe this kind of hatred is with us in 21st century America.

That's positive. Did you read the article? Not much of an attack there; He's just pointing out that the hate talk can get people shot.

(503 posts)I was watching TV as it happened. I went upstairs to tell my husband. I woke him up and said, "He's been shot". I didn't even have to say who; he knew.
I still have the pastels I did of JFK, MLK and RFK. Sad times. Heartbreaking times.

(8,421 posts)They were so sad, and I recall seeing JFK's assassin killed on live TV! I spent 2 days in a bomb shelter during the Cuban Missile crisis. I remember folks being scared to death of Goldwater. I did the 'duck and cover' drill in my kindergarten. A lot of stuff happened we wouldn't want kids subjected to today.

(503 posts)my new husband, who was in the Air Force reserve, would be called up for Cuba. We moved from prime target are Chicago to prime target area LA County. The first time I heard sonic boom I was sure WWlll had started.
