SANFORD George Zimmerman is due back in court today with a request that he again be freed on bail.
¬snip¬
Zimmerman was arrested April 11 but Circuit Judge Kenneth Lester Jr. ordered him released on $150,000 bail a week later.
But that was before he learned that Zimmerman had an on-line fund-raising campaign that was raking in $1,000 a day.
At an April 20 bond hearing, Zimmerman's wife, Shellie Zimmerman, testified under oath that she and George were broke. In reality, according to prosecutors, they had transferred at least $135,000 between accounts in the days just before the hearing.
The day she testified, according to records produced by Special Prosecutor Angela Corey, Shellie Zimmerman had $57,000 in her personal bank account.

(3,596 posts)He and his wife appear to have nothing but disdain for the law.
First they engage in a conspiracy to commit a fraud on the court by moving monies around.
Second they both perjure themselves as to their assets.
Third it appears that Zimmerman surrendered one passport but had another. I'm sure the judge had requested any/all passports and again he lied and engaged in deception.
If I were the judge I would not believe anything he says and would consider him a significant flight risk.

(1,142 posts)I've been waiting to see what other new evidence gets released today as the prosecutor said that she would be releasing a lot of previously held back evidence on the 29th.

A member of a Sanford, Fla., ambulance crew told a court today that George Zimmerman's head, including his moustache and beard, were covered in blood after the shooting of Trayvon Martin.
EMT Kevin O'Rourke testified during Zimmerman's bond hearing this morning that "45 percent" of Zimmerman's head had blood on it and that the lacerations on Zimmerman's head "would probably need stitches."...

(10,751 posts)...also, I don't remember him having a moustache and beard in that video, either -- did the EMT shave it for him? And did George ever get any stitches for his injuries? Again, I don't recall that being the case.
Finally: what is this testimony doing in a bail hearing, anyway?

(57,936 posts)him in his contradictions. Maybe the likelihood of conviction is one of the court's considerations. Lots of possibilities.
Maybe the prosecutor just wants to let Zimmerman talk himself into a corner. Maybe she is interested in finding out the truth, because we don't know what that is yet. We won't know until the jury tells us whose story and which facts it believes to be credible.
Credibility is the name of the game, and you can't tell how a jury will judge that at this point.

(3 posts)I'm not so sure that Zimmerman should be bailed, but not for the same reasons as the rest of you are likely considering. I don't think its safe for him to be out in public. While extremely under-reported, the violent reactionaries out for their own special version of justice in Trayvon's name are still there.
Considering the evidence, the official reports, and the lie detector tests, I'll pose my theory on why Zimmerman might hide money and a passport. I think hes afraid that he's going to face an overexposed jury who will convict not on evidence but on the inflammatory race battle our media has instigated. On the other side, if he is vindicated in the shooting of Trayvon do you all really believe it will end there? This man will have to leave the country, he simply will not be safe here. Innocent random people have been beaten and killed in the name of Trayvon. Zimmerman will be a target for the rest of his days for those who think they are above the law.
This money matter is an all to old story and with the various number of donation accounts, some set up by Zimmerman and some not, I'm going to reserve judgement till full investigations have completed. Having said that, lets try not to be side-tracked by this. Zimmerman's financials are not relevant to the case at hand which is: self defense or murder.

(135,060 posts)he should remain in custody for that alone.

(9,214 posts)You mean like Zimmerman thought he was above the law when he got out of the SUV?
No, this is a bail hearing, financials are very relevant.
Hope you have a nice stay.

(27,464 posts)is relevant in that it exposes his willingness to lie to protect his own ass. From the little I've read about the guy, he tends to get himself in trouble and then somehow get off with no real repercussions. I'm tempted to believe he thought this was going to be another such case. I absolutely do not believe what he claimed, that the kid's last words were "You got me." That alone is so utterly ridiculous that I have to wonder if Zimmerman is even sane enough to stand trial.

Zimmerman was once fined $10,000 in a federal civil lawsuit because he was a no-show at his own deposition, The Miami Herald has learned. Records show lawyers, including one who flew in from Atlanta to take Zimmermans sworn statement, waited for him for an hour and a half while they tried unsuccessfully to reach him.
Zimmerman ultimately won the overtime-pay dispute in arbitration, but the arbitrator hit him with a fine he apparently never paid. Nothing in the court file explained why he missed the deposition.
OMara says Zimmermans failure to appear at a deposition in a civil case should not count against his client in his murder trial for the shooting of Miami Gardens teen Trayvon Martin. OMara is asking the judge to set bond at something similar to $150,000 what it was before Zimmerman was sent back to jail for keeping secret how much money he had raised from online donations.

He also never notified his attorney for that case when he received the settlement - and never paid the law firm for their time representing him...

(135,060 posts)>> reporter: it's been a very curiouq a bond hearing, as you just said. will the judge grant georgezimmerman a new bond. but it really devolved into sort of a mini trial here, because the defense called witnesses, as did the prosecution, and they questioned the strength of the case for this second degree murder case. now, among the pieces of evidence that has been used by the prosecution to help bring the second degree murder charges are in the background of some 911 calls, you can hear screaming for help. trayvon martin, the unarmed 17-year-old who was shot and killed, his mother heard that tape and said that was my son screaming for help. well, today, george zimmerman 's father took the stand and he unequivocally stated that he listened to those tapes and it was his son screaming for help. now, after all of that was wrapped up, the judge returned to the issue at hand which is about the bond hearing. he emptied the courtroom without issuing a ruling. he will do that, we're not sure when. the state wants him kept in jail. the defense says that's punitive, he should be allowed to get out and they are actually asking for a similar bond that he had before, $150,000. we may get a ruling today. it may come a week from now. the judge did not tip his hand.
