BREAKING: Trump Announces Plan To Gut Education, Eliminate 490,000 Teacher Jobs (DETAILS)Last edited Sun Sep 4, 2016, 11:47 PM - Edit history (1) This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by uppityperson (a host of the Latest Breaking News forum). BREAKING: Trump Announces Plan To Gut Education, Eliminate 490,000 Teacher Jobs (DETAILS) Quote According to the think tank, this would be the actual results of demolishing the Department of Education: ‘8 million students every year would lose Pell grants 490,000 or more teacher positions could be eliminated $1.3 trillion in student loans would be at risk 9 million low-income students would lose $15 billion of Title I funding annually 5 million children and students with disabilities would lose $12.7 billion used every year to ensure that they receive a quality education 750,000 or more students from military families, Native American students, students living in U.S. territories, and students living on federal property or Native American lands would lose $1.1 billion per year for their school 4,000 or more rural school districts would lose more than $175 million used annually to help improve the quality of teaching and learning in many hard-to-staff schools $700 million used by states to support the 5 million English language learners currently in public schools—representing close to 10 percent of all students—would be cut.’ Other factors that would go by the wayside are the federal guarantees of equality in “race, income, language, and disability” in public education. A recent CBO [Congressional Budget Office] report indicated: http://thehill.com/regulation/294318-report-trumps-education-plan-would-cut-490k-teacher-jobs For all you that think it isn't reliable. https://www.americanprogressaction.org/issues/education/news/2016/09/01/162258/trumps-plan-to-eliminate-the-department-of-education-is-yet-another-in-a-list-of-terrible-ideas/ The report Read more: https://www.americanprogressaction.org/issues/education/news/2016/09/01/162258/trumps-plan-to-eliminate-the-department-of-education-is-yet-another-in-a-list-of-terrible-ideas/ MAKE AMERICA STUPID AGAIN! 7. Eliminating DoEd has always been a top priority of the GOP
All that money could be diverted to:
- more tax cuts for the 1% - the DoD war machine - state govs to handout sweetheart deals to their private school cronies and campaign contributors |

Anything that could even be perceived as having or delivering government oversight is to be eliminated and privatized.

Which, if you think about it for a second, is physically impossible.

16. Many people within the base
Really want to abolish most of our government. If we don't take it seriously, we may find ourselfs a very poor and backwards nation.

19. No it's not
It's the Center for American Progress Action Fund site.
They are warning people about what might happen if the Department of Education was cut. Trump does not actually have any plan or position on this. His website does not even have a section on education. Edit to add: A news site for LBN is like Reuters or AP. |

26. This is also going to devastate the American tech industry,
along with any medical, engineering, or other science-based industry. Due to the astronomical costs of higher degrees, already over half of our STEM major PhD's go to international students who return to their countries with them. Companies like Texas Instruments already have workforce shortages in those areas.
BTW, the fact that these bright young professionals aren't allowed to stay and get jobs in the U.S. even when they want to is the other side of our very broken immigration system. |

30. The white rural Trump stronghold voters should know:
"4,000 or more rural school districts would lose more than $175 million used annually to help improve the quality of teaching and learning in many hard-to-staff schools"
