Libertarian VP Bill Weld Considering Dropping Out & Endorsing Hillary Clinton

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by etherealtruth (a host of the Latest Breaking News forum).

Source: Liberty Hangout

To anyone who’s closely followed the 2016 election, it’s no surprise that Libertarian Party Vice Presidential nominee, Bill Weld, has a long lasting relationship with Hillary Rodham Clinton. In the first Libertarian Townhall on CNN, Weld described his bond with Clinton as being “life long.” He’s also maintained that he believes there was no criminal intent on Hillary’s part in her ongoing email scandal, and Libertarian Party presidential nominee, Gary Johnson, once called Hillary Clinton “a wonderful public servant.”

It’s now being reported by Carl Bernstein that Bill Weld is considering dropping out of the race and perhaps getting behind Hillary Clinton, in an effort to stop Trump. In an interview with CNN, Bernstein said, “I know Bill Weld and I know how much he despises Donald Trump… Right now we have to keep Donald Trump out of the White House. And I think he might do it. He might campaign for her.”

Whenever I see Gary Johnson, I swear, I find myself thinking he belongs on Edgar Bergen's knee.

For the young 'uns among us - Edgar Bergen was Candice Bergen's father. He was internationally famous as a ventriloquist. He had two dummies: Charlie McCarthy and Mortimer Snerd. Candice Bergen recalls being described as Charlie McCarthy's "sister" back when she was a little girl. She wrote a memoir awhile back called "Knock Wood."

some of the young people in my FB universe were avid Bernsters and they bought all the anti Hillary crap that was spread by the right. One guy in particular continues to spout the most vile stories and exhorts us to vote for Stein. I tried to gently remind him that Bernie himself has asked us to support Clinton, but to no avail. I am pleased to see that she is polling around 5% and hope some of those folks come to their senses in November.

Endorsing another candidate once it is clear you can't win can install your third party as a powerful force.

IMHO.

Jill Stein should consider this also, as we get closer to the election. She will make very little impact getting 4% of the vote, and will really discredit her party if she continues to siphon votes from Hillary in close states. On the other hand, once it is clear she will get nowhere close to winning, I think she can bring a lot of respect and real power to the Green Party by just endorsing Hillary over Trump. She doesn't have to agree with Hillary's policies in general, just come out and say the Green Party is committed to defeating Nazis!

Again, IMHO.

Bill Weld is an honorable, old-time Republican

Let's not forget, Republican roots run back to the Progressive Era,
when Main Street businessmen and National Association of Manufacturers
CEOs formed civic organizations in the early 1900s. These were the mainstay
of many small towns and cities. National Civic Federation, Kiwanis, Rotary and
others integrated business and labor for the common good, and were a bullwark
against communism by 1920. These were genuine family values.

He was talking about how Weld just really hated Trump and how that was he main reason for joining the ticket. Sam talked about he wasn't a true Libertarian, just a moderate Republican pissed off by Trump. I'm curious if the state polling, especially Colorado, is the catalyst for this speculation. In 2000 Nader got only 1% in Florida and 3% in NH where is was a spoiler in both states. But with Johnson polling over 10% in Colorado he is set to be an extreme spoiler.

In a statement on Sunday afternoon, Weld responded:

“Gary Johnson and I will campaign with all our strength to make that case to the American people from now until November 8th. Under no circumstances will our energies be diverted from our goal of winning the election and serving our country.”

Weld attributed Bernstein’s reporting to “wishful thinking on the part of the two-party duopoly.”

SOURCE: http://wtkr.com/2016/09/18/gary-johnson-vows-to-keep-fighting-sets-sights-on-second-debate/

FURTHER DOWN IN THE ARTICLE JOHNSON SAYS -

Johnson said on “Reliable Sources” that “70% of America right now doesn’t even know I’m in the race.”

Johnson and Weld will receive a close-up on the most-watched news program in the country, CBS’s “60 Minutes,” on Sunday night.

He said on CNN that the two-party structure in the United States “needs to be ruined.”

“They have done this to themselves. They have become so polarized. Their only agenda is to kill each other.”
