(6,551 posts)It goes to character.
Yesterday he was in Florida telling Cuban Americans that he does not support better relations with Cuba.
When this story hits the Florida media, the Cuban Americans will or should be furious.
Trump is a liar.

Do we trust the reporter that did this story to be able to back it up especially the part with Trump's knowledge?

Lots of loose ends and credibility to verify.

(4,787 posts)He wrote the Newsweek piece on Trump's myriad and murky ties to Euro strongmen etc.
From what I can tell from journalists' comments online, he has a good rep as an investigative reporter.

Agree with OP, this is a REALLY big deal. The shell companies
supporting one another with secret deals, tax avoidance, payment
subterfuge - this is the Granddaddy of scandals so far.
Have they looked for Swiss Bank accounts and dug in the Cayman Islands yet?

(29,205 posts)Trump might have wanted to explore a casino for foreigners in Havana but I doubt Castro was interested.
OTOH, Trumps connections to Russians may go back a *lot* longer... and this investment exploration trip may have been ordered from Moscow which, at the time, still wanted to influence Castro but officially didn't have money on hand to continue the Communist client state relationship.

(1,383 posts)We need to remember the politicians who proclaimed,
Trump can and will be our next POTUS!
We need to put a great big orange iron ball and chain on these people.
Our response after their meandering, incoherent rants about Hillary should be "Yeah. Well - you supported Trump".

There are others who've been charged with trying to do business during the Cuban embargo. If there's evidence from Newsweek, this could be a Big Fucking Deal charge against Trump.
But most likely the election show will go on.

(47 posts)Don the Con is from New York. For many years the Construction/Real Estate industry has had a close relationship with organized crime in New York. There have been many rumors of Donald doing business with them. At the time of this story, many European companies started building hotels/casinos in Cuba. There was never a law against Europeans doing business, traveling or vacationing in Cuba. Casinos were a big profit center for the Mob before Castro took power. It would make perfect sense for Donald to do the legwork for the Mob testing the waters as to business possibilities at that time.

(24,703 posts)I fully understand, but Treason is Treason, this country was in a state of a defacto WAR with the government of Cuba
.
If a democrat had done this he or she would be drawn and quartered. That's what they ( the scammers called the republican party have been running on ever since Kennedy was murdered).
The republicans and the lackeys supporting this criminal enterprise, keep forgetting that it was John Kennedy that expanded this embargo-------
You can look a republican right in the face and ask them do you think drumpenfurher who committed a crime should be thrown in jail for this and they say-------he didn't do anything wrong when the facts say other wise, what kind of kool aid do they drink over there, it sure isn't "law and order"
We need to get out an vote
