Trump Goes After Machado Again
Source: Talking Points Memo
In the situation Donald Trump is in with former Miss Universe Alicia Machado, any media professional or really anyone with a conscience would say this: "We quarreled many years ago. It's in the past. I truly wish her the best." Done and done.
But just an hour ago Trump went on O'Reilly to again trash Machado, now saying that he saved her job, gave her a shot at not being fat and this is the thanks he gets. Yes, he really said that. "You know, they wanted to fire her. The company itself wanted to fire her. I saved her job ... I saved her job because I said that's going to -- I did that with a number of young ladies. The staff itself (wanted to fire her). Look what happened. Look what I get out of it. I get nothing. A lot of things are coming out about her."
TRUMP: No, not much. I hardly know this person. This was a person 20 years ago. She wasn't a successful, you know, I sold the Miss Universe contest for tremendous price about, you know, six months ago. Worked out great. So I don't have anything to do with it anymore. But I really enjoyed it when I had it. But this is a person, Bill that that was the first one under my ownership. She did not do well. She had a lot of difficulty. And, you know, they wanted to fire her. The company itself wanted to fire her. I saved her job. I will bet you if you put up and added up all the time I spoke to her probably less than five minutes. I mean, I wasn't -- I had nothing to do with this person, but they wanted to fire her. I saved her job because I said that's going to -- I did that with a number of young ladies. The staff itself. Look what happened. Look what I get out of it. I get nothing. A lot of things are coming out about her.

(5,611 posts)over and over and over. This is especially the case on the morning "news" show Fox and Friends, O'Reilly's "no spin" show, and of course Trump's hero/bff Sean Hannity's show. When Greta was still on she would allow Trump to phone in "interviews" all the time, letting him talk at length, and even helpfully "explaining" the points he was "really" trying to make (her mysterious disappearance is very weird indeed -- she might have been part of the Roger Ailes debacle, who knows -- I expect she'll show up on CNN like Kirsten Powers or S.C. Cupp)

(1,209 posts)OREILLY: Other avenue they are going to come after you is the women card. They are going to say that you are a mean guy and you don't respect women. Do you have anything further to say on this Miss Universe thing?
That is one helluva probing question from O'Really. It just about encapsulates the fucked up state of affairs that Fox News and other Trump-boosting media have descended into.

(1,254 posts)Was to admit that retrospectively, perhaps he was a bit harsh in calling her names, BUT that he and the contest also had some legitimate complaints as to how this 19 yr. old kid was not respecting and complying with the MU org. He had a chance to take the high road by acknowledging it was a minor mistake in judgment. Instead he is now doubling down and turning a minor issue FROM THE PAST into MAJOR issue in the present. Thus proving his ego is too fragile and he is UNABLE to recognize a mistake, let alone admit to it. Once again showing voters Trump lacks any moral compass and is unable to comprehend, let alone acknowledge mistakes he made. Trump can't even recognize the giant mistake he is making now, attacking Machado. Probably thinks this is "good" publicity.

(9,893 posts)is what he does 100% of the time. Bet on it every time. His emotional development seems to have stopped in elementary school.
If you added up his MAJOR unforced errors they would be in the hundreds since New Years Day 2016. The gift that keeps on giving.

(17,863 posts)Irrespective of your politics how can you imagine Trump interacting with world leaders and our political leaders?
As an episode of Better Call Saul highlighted it is like giving a chimp a machine gun.
Another analogy would be (if you are one who hates Clinton) then it is like turning over the organization to either Michael or Fredo Corleone.

(17,863 posts)He was referring to his ownership of the pageant.
It would be a great quote if he actually said it though.
yardwork
(61,617 posts)Sure, the syntax was a little mangled and technically he meant his ownership of the pageant, but it is clear in context that Trump believes that ownership of the pageant meant, essentially, his ownership of people.
Trump treated the pageant winner as his property.
His behavior toward people reveals this attitude. It's consistent. Another example "There's my African American!" Sure, not literally true. But still.
People reveal what they are thinking in the words they say.

(5,611 posts)about people he has known -- like David Duke, or the Miss Universe winner, who Trump initially claimed not to know (!!!). Then the video of him shoving her in front of reporters for a work-out session while saying "hey we all have eating problems, even me" (I am paraphrasing -- his arrogant stunt thoroughly humiliated her) came out, and suddenly he remembered her very well, including every aspect of her life that he could blab to the media to distract everyone from his reprehensible behavior.

And since women's only value is their youth and looks, why, no one can understand why every woman isn't out there dieting and exercising to 'prove their worth.'
Honestly, it's fucking exhausting to have to fight this shit over and over.

(59,503 posts)There are likely more than "five minutes" captured on tape of him speaking of or to her. That video, where he is forcing her to exercise shows a beautiful, smiling woman -- who is not fat -- listening to what he tells her to do.
Not to mention, it looks like it was Trump's actions of calling her fat and bringing in the media to see her exercise that caused any bad PR there was. There is no way that looking exactly as she did, she could have not credibly finish her year as Miss Universe - doing whatever promotion was asked. Not to mention, he never paid her for the work she did. His creepy obsession with his own idealized idea of what a woman should look like may well have been the only problem.

"Donald J. Trump has sold the Miss Universe Organization to the talent agency WME-IMG, the company announced on Monday.
The sale, the financial terms of which were not disclosed, came after a rough summer for the organizations Miss USA beauty pageant in which two television partners dropped the broadcast in response to comments Mr. Trump made about illegal immigrants during his presidential campaign. "

He had to buy out his employer NBC's share, then sold it all within 3 days, then the business collapsed. He did great.
Then there's his great job with the PGA event at Doral, where the orange cannonmouth popped off a few too many times than were helpful for the sponsors' bottom lines, about Mexican immigrants and Mexicans, so the sponsors pulled out. Though the Doral Resort was the single most profitable business in the dRump business organization, his intemperate statements caused the major event held at it to move -- to Mexico. Doral City mayor Boria backed dRump's statements and gave him a key to the city, then the PGA pull out was a financial blow to the city and a threat to future investments by international businesses.

His performance and brags on these things seems similar to what it would be like if you came across your kid in the garage, and he's got the lawnmower taken completely apart, the gears are on the ground, the tires are off, there's nuts and bolts everywhere, the blade's laying over there, and as your foot slips on the oily spark plug, he says "look daddy, I fixted it!" That might be endearing, though time consuming and aggravating to deal with.
It's a lot less endearing when the kid is a large 70 year old overweight bald orange violent foul-tempered nasty-mouthed half-wiseguy nazi a hole egomaniac, and the mower is the economy, the country, and our planet.

(5,611 posts)should be criticizing beautiful women for not measuring up...Riiiiiight. He even criticized Melania for not losing all the baby weight when she had Barron in some ridiculous amount of time according to a reporter who was basically doing a fluff piece on them. Of course he shouldn't be making comments about ANY woman's weight (or any man's) period, full stop. But he seems to think that he was/is handsome, not obese and not ridiculous-looking with that orange mop on his head, which makes me laugh out loud -- what narcissism!
