Regency Beauty Institute closes all campuses nationwide

ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) - After more than 50 years educating students, Regency Beauty Institute permanently closed all 79 campuses Wednesday.
The institute's website listed lack of funding, declining numbers of cosmetology students, and a negative characterization of for-profit education by regulators and politicians as some of the reasons for the closure.
The school suggests previous students should participate in "Teach-outs," which are arrangements that allow them to complete a cosmetology program at another accredited school at a typically lower rate than a standard transfer agreement.
Students will be allowed to get their personal items from the campuses on Thursday from 3 to 5 p.m. and Friday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. The schools will not be open at any other time, according to their website.

(182,826 posts)I know that our county has a program and they transport anyone who elects (there is an application process) this path from anywhere in the county to the specialty high school where it is taught.

(468 posts)They charge too much, pay their instructors too little, and don't provide that great of an education. There's a minimum of instruction they are required to teach, and after that the students just have to put in their hours. They're basically getting paid to babysit these students for 2000 hours, or whatever the required number is in their state.
