GOP leaders express reservations a day after 9/11 veto override

Source: The Hill

By Jordain Carney - 09/29/16 02:29 PM EDT

A day after the House and Senate overwhelmingly voted to override President Obama's veto, GOP leaders are expressing reservations about legislation that would allow lawsuits related to 9/11 to go forward against Saudi Arabia.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) both said they were open to discussions about changing the bill, which Congress approved unanimously.

"I do think it's worth further discussions, but it was certainly not something that was going to be fixed this week," McConnell told reporters on Thursday. McConnell also criticized the lack of a discussion about "the potential consequences" of a very "popular bill."

Ryan agreed that Congress may need to "fix" the legislation but said he wasn't sure when that would happen.

"...and, after further consideration (vs. knee jerk political reaction), we've concluded that President Obama was probably correct in his assessment."

What that in the first or second paragraph.

No ?

Thought not.

but still the Republicans are the ones in charge in both houses. The greater blame has to fall on them. I can't believe they are backtracking after one day. Instead of criticizing Obama it validates him and shows what a dysfunctional mess Congress is. Change in Congressional leadership is needed that can only come about by a change in the party controlling the two Houses.

From the OP's link -

I told the president the other day that this is an example of an issue that we should have talked about much earlier,” McConnell said Thursday. “It appears as if there may be some unintended ramifications of that and I do think it’s worth further discussing. But it was certainly not something that was going to be fixed this week.”

So this is Obama's fault?

Does Touche Turtle really believe that the Obama administration drafted that bill, submitted it to him and Eddie Munster to schedule votes on, lobbied for both chambers to pass it, only to have him then veto it, and encourage them to override the veto?

Really??????

Is not the Senate's role to "Advise and consent"? Where was THEIR "advice" instead of continuing their habit of blindly doing everything the opposite of what the President would like them to do? He'll say "yes" and they immediately say "no". So then he'll say, "okay no" and they will knee-jerk to say "yes!".

3 1/2 months left for Obama to be in office and the ODS continues to be over the top.
