Susan Collins cites 5-year-old who lived in Portland woods in Senate speech on anti-poverty bill

Source: Portland Press Herald

"The legislation introduced by Collins on Wednesday, the Two-Generation Economic Empowerment Act, is co-sponsored by Sen. Martin Heinrich, D-New Mexico. It would align and link existing anti-poverty programs and funding streams in an effort to increase economic security, educational issues, social capital, and health and well-being. Such coordination would improve the effectiveness of the programs, Collins said."

This sounds like a good bill. The idea is to streamline the anti-poverty programs we have to make them more effective and easier for people that need the services to access the services (less paper work). Also focuses on providing services for the whole family. I wonder if this will go anywhere.

U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, ...highlighted the story of a 5-year-old girl who lived in Portland’s woods this summer as an example of the gaps in existing programs. In a floor speech to introduce new legislation, Collins spoke about the struggles of Arianna and her family during the month they spent living in woods behind a Portland strip mall.

Republicans will call that "camping". "Back to nature." Lots of Mainers do it. And that she is a "lucky ducky".
