U.S. Supreme Court DEFIANTLY Cuts Legs Off Of NRA, Issues Historic Ruling (VIDEO)

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by etherealtruth (a host of the Latest Breaking News forum).

Source: Bipartisan Report

The Supreme Court of the United States has finally ruled on an issue mentioned in the October 2015 syllabus, and first argued in February of 2016. The decision ruled that people convicted of any domestic abuse crimes can no longer legally own firearms.

The efforts were taken in order to “close a dangerous loophole” that allowed people convicted of “minor” domestic abuse to purchase and own weapons legally. Now, the ban on felons owning firearms has been extended to include people convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence.

And at .03-.04 on the video, it says that the news was reported by AP on June 27, 2016.

While good news, it's not new, nor breaking.

I find it absurd that it required the USSC to rule on it. People who committed acts of domestic violence should not own guns as they have proven their inability to control themselves and their emotions.

it's needed to set precedent and overrule all the lower courts of red states who want them to have guns just in case

This is very important. It takes the supreme court to rule on many controversial and wide-reaching issues like this. No one else can do it.

I understand that to put this issue to rest that the USSC had to make a ruling. I just think it's a common sense issue that those guilty of domestic violence should not own a gun.

You and I know that a ruling is one thing, but in all honesty, does anyone think this will make a difference? Felons cannot legally get guns, but they are out there and they are armed. Now those committing and convicted of a misdemeanor are being told they cannot legally get a gun.
I applaud the ruling and love to see the NRA slapped around, just wish the SCOUS would really come down on the entire issue of guns.

I'm not sure about other states, but people in Ohio can be convicted of a 4th-degree misdemeanor for domestic violence if a spouse felt threatened by language. A spiteful spouse can cause a lot of trouble that way since no evidence is necessary.

I consider it good news too, but I wanted to clarify that it doesn't apply to ALL misdemeanor domestic violence convictions.

I did find similar articles from last June. Here's one: http://www.thewrap.com/supreme-court-rules-that-domestic-abusers-can-lose-gun-ownership-rights/
